Vegetarian credits Sausage McMuffins for helping carry triplets to full term

A British woman credits in vitro fertilization (IVF) -- aided by daily breakfasts of sausage McMuffins to help carry her triplets to full term -- after failing for 10 years to get pregnant the old-fashioned way.

Vegetarian Laura Dixon, 34, and husband Tim, 34, of Essex, tried three times with IVF to have a family, but was unsuccessful twice; the first attempt was abandoned and the second try ending in a heartbreaking miscarriage after eight weeks, SWNS.com reports.

Laura was in her third round of IVF when she conceived and decided to boost her odds of carrying to full term by increasing her protein intake with regular servings of meat.

The long-awaited news that she was pregnant came on her 33rd birthday -- she was going to be the mother of triplets, two identical boys and a girl.

"After losing one baby to a miscarriage, I thought I would never be able to carry three," SWNS.com reported.

"But then my hunger kicked in and despite never eating meat I craved it. I ate about six meals a day."

A regular feast of burgers, chicken, bacon and daily breakfasts from McDonald's became a staple for the lifelong vegetarian and she began gaining weight.

"It all seems like a blur now. I just remember the cravings were so strong that I would wake up in the night and make my husband go and get me a McDonald's," Laura said, according to SWNS.com. "Eating meat definitely helped me get all the protein you need when you're pregnant. I think it could be one of the reasons I managed to carry all three to full term."

Max, Mason and Mia, now 14 months old, were each born a minute apart by caesarean section and went home from hospital two weeks after birth.

Laura is now back on her meatless diet and only eats veggie wraps and fries from McDonald's.

I hope she does not impose a vegetarian or vegan diet on those kids. Any malnutrition now will have a permanent deleterious effect on their cognition (in other words, their IQ will be affected).

Kids need protein during all stages of development, not just during the fetal stage.

The woman was malnourished by choice on the first try. I’m glad things finally worked out for her and her husband.

Humans are omnivores. It’s really hard to get all the nutrients you need without some meat in your diet, Particularly when trying to grow a baby, as this woman discovered.

So, what does this prove? A vegetarian diet sometimes just isn’t enough.

I <3 meat

The only thing I go to McDonalds for. Just a great sandwich for a dollar.

I always knew McDonald’s got little kids addicted to eating their food early, but in the womb? That is ridiculous.

With egg, that's MY favorite, too

(even though it's a number two sandwich

when I order it from the drive thru menu).

Even better when you ask for a small black coffee with it and the geniuses charge you for a “senior” coffee

$1.49 breakfast, good deal

I agree, but it’s overpriced with the egg.

My wife had to have a cheeseburger every day as soon as she knew she was pregnant. Couldn’t help herself.

That is so odd!

I do not recall craving anything when I was pregnant. I also did not have morning sickness. I had to avoid caffeine, though, as it made my babies hyperactive (and they kicked hard!).
