The MS Pacific, a cruise ship made famous by the popular U.S. 1970s television show "The Love Boat," has sailed its final voyage to a ship-breaking yard on Turkey's Aegean Sea coast, a shipping group said on Wednesday.
Called the Pacific Princess when it was on the long-running comedy, the iconic 13,500-tonne, 171-m-long (561-foot-long) vessel will be stripped for its metal and parts, said Ersin Ceviker of the Ship Recyclers' Association of Turkey.
Aaron Spelling's "The Love Boat," starring Gavin MacLeod as the ship's captain, ran on the U.S. television network ABC from 1977 to 1986. The show was set on board the Pacific Princess, which mainly sailed from California to the Mexican Riveria.

Cool, thanks for sharing.
I can almost smell that stale cigarette smell that sticks to 1970s Casinos and Cruise ships.
Who knew that ship was even still around, amazing.

Does anyone remember the name of the ship in a much earlier TV sitcom starring Gale Storm? She was Susanna Pomeroy the recreation or was it activities directo? Her best friend was the ships manicurist played by Zasu Pitts. The captain was Captain Huxley.

We enjoyed a 2 week cruise on the Pacific Princess in 1998. We sailed out of Istanbul into the Black Sea-11 ports in 14 days-the cruise ended in Rome. Great memories.
Thanks for posting.

the song always reminded me of the Love American Style theme song...

What a shame. I would have loved to take a dip in those club-shaped pools, and watched some hot bikini-clad 1970s women walk by.
Yeah I know that after the pilot that it was a stage set.
But give me those washed up has-been "stars" walking around.
Who cares about the smoking?
Doesn't everyone want Captain Steubing running the place?
All of the guest stars wound up at his table.

Thanks, I really liked the show.
Gale Storm could really sing. I still remember her singing “Dark Moon” and it was one of my favorite songs.

LOL! Lauren Tewes used up all of her Love Boat money in cocaine.
That's why she isn't around in the latter seasons.
She ended up in Seattle where she lives, selling cheese at Metropolitan Market, an upscale grocery store.
We asked after her, but apparently she's gone on to bigger and better things.

There was a lot of episodes where she was high on that stuff, I remember seeing it clear as day, Lauren Tewes and the jaw grinding, nose twitching just like Nancy Pelosi who is another cocaine fanatic. Nancy who gets away with it because we don't have a constitutional requirement that all members of Congress must submit to random drug testing. A friend of mine is a drug counselor and says Nancy displays allllll the symptoms of cocaine abuse. Isn't that nice? People who make decisions that affect the lives of millions can do hard drugs without any fear of reprisal, and we wonder why this country is so effed up.
