They aren’t quite normal (they were fraternal twins). She used an unlicensed fertilization drug from Mexico. One of the triplets, a girl, got RSV, the mother insisted on treating her with alternative therapy, and she ended up severely retarded, with the brain of a 2-month-old. The mother went on national TV to raise funds for a wheelchair for her poor sick girl.
There are several proposed theories here, one that she simply did this to the boy to get back into the news, one that she did this subconsciously to replace the daughter she essentially destroyed.

I’m afraid to ask: how did the little girl get RSV? Respiratory ailments aren’t that rare in multiples but this sounds drastic (and heartbreaking - again, for the child regardless of the cause).
If I were to buy into either of the theories you enumerated, it’d be the subconscious effort to replace the ‘lost’ daughter. At least to some extent most of us could relate to that rather than seeking publicity, but who knows?
