How sad. A++
Yesterday, my truck had one of those mysterious attacks that seem to be most common to 4x4’s-the gearshift stuck in park and would not budge-not in 2 wheel drive, not in 4 wheel drive, low range or high. My shrieked profanities and blows to the dashboard brought only a few amused stares...
As I sat sweating and fuming with groceries getting warm, I was about to call for a tow when I remembered about a gearshift override from my last such vehicle, and after looking around, I found it and was able to use my trusty swiss army knife to pry the cover off, and push the overtride button, releasing the shift from park and into the gears.
I drove home cursing, parked the thing in neutral with the brake on, and there it sits in disgrace. But my contractor compadre is on his way over with his nephew to see if it may not be a quick fix, since he wants me at work tomorrow...
My moms car was dead and had no such release. I actually got it so the car would not shift out of park to allow it to be towed. Then it wouldnt let the key out of the ignition cause it did not know it was in park. All these “idiot proof” controls that frustrate you when there is no power.
Well, apparently the solenoid connected to the brake pedal that controls the shifting mechanism from being yanked into gear from park is fried-it is just a little part, and I will just have to baby it until I can order another one someplace, and get the co-worker’s nephew to install it.
It is an idiot control-and it functions whether the truck is on or off, just in case some dumbass is going to yank the thing into gear without their foot on the brake-so now that it is fried, it won’t let you go into gear at all from park, and that makes any claim to “safety” of that mechanism pure bulls***...
I’ve never seen a shift control override thingee you can get into and use on any vehicle but a 4x4-this is my 4th vehicle of that type in 30+ years, and they have all had one someplace on the floor in the console with the gearshift and the shifter to/from 2 and 4 WD-there has got to be a reason for that...
Meanwhile, I will be driving with a flathead screwdriver of the appropriate size in the console, and the cover off the shift lockout switch...
When I was in high school, I actually snapped my gear stick in half(yes it was metal), trying to force it into gear. I think my boyfriend was a little afraid of me after that. I couldn’t drum up that much energy now if I tried.
Was sitting here ready to post the thread and realized that we switched out the computer in the study to the one xshub brought back from his dad’s house[RIP] and that i didn’t transfer the template and ping list to this one, can one of yinz subs please send me the template/ping list? thanks!
