It's big, it's hairy, and it's venomous.
The newest spider to give arachnophobes the willies, a tarantula named Poecilotheria rajaei has been discovered on the island nation of Sri Lanka.
With a leg span of 8 inches (20 centimeters) and enough venom to kill mice, lizards, small birds and snakes, according to Sky News, the crawler is covered in subtle markings of gray, pink and daffodil yellow.
"It can be quite attractive, unless spiders freak you out," Peter Kirk, editor of the British Tarantula Society journal, told the New York Daily News.
Even the scientists studying the spiders admit to being a little freaked out by its size: "It was slightly smaller than the size of the plate we have dinner on," Ranil Nanayakkara, co-founder of Sri Lankas Biodiversity Education and Research, told the Daily News....

It needs something like a quarter next to it to show its size. Otherwise, it could be just a small spider with the camera zoomed in!

A scary, creepy, crawly tarantula of the genus Poecilotheria has a name that is very apro-poe.....almost as apro-poe as the screen name of the poster of this thread, LOL.

The first scary flic I ever saw.
The opening scene with a pajama'd man staggering in the desert, sunburned and disfigured, was the first "shock" I had ever experienced.
The camera slowly closed in on the man staggering, then he fell .. (face down, I think) .. and he slowly rolled over ...
Leo G Carrol, I think.

“With a leg span of 8 inches (20 centimeters) “
8”? Is that all? Down in the Big Bend (Texas) this would be a pup! Down there, these critters get about the size of trash can lids and that’s just the runts, lol :)

Same here....I was about 6 years old, as I recall, and it was on KTLA (Los Angeles) one Sunday afternoon.
Surprisingly, I didn’t end up arachnophobic, LOL!
Yes, I do believe that was Leo G. Carrol. Great film; a classic.

I may be wrong but their was a small scene actor, a police courier on a motorcycle that was sent out, spider killed him.
Anyone care to speculate who that actor was?
Initials are C E.
I may be wrong but its just a bit of trivia.
