My company is moving me to Oklahoma City in the next two months. I'm relocating from Katy, TX (in the Houston area).
What we are looking for is a place where we have maximum freedom to do with our property as we like within reasonable driving distance (40 minutes of downtown). We homeschool our four boys and that is not going to change, so highly rated schools are not a factor for us.
We've looked east of town towards Shawnee and North towards Guthrie. We've also talked about abandoning our hopes of having any kind of property and moving close to downtown in an older house, although the violent crime rate seems extremely high, even in nicer neighborhoods.
Any thoughts from FReepers in the OKC area would be highly valued.
In connection with my post about Edmond, Oklahoma, Dr. Mark Hitchcock and Faith Bible Church - this is Mark Hitchcock at Dallas Theological Seminary Chapel ...

Piedmont.
NE of OKC.
I lived there 7 years and we loved it. Wonderful people, good school, taxes lower than OKC, open spaces.
Shawnee and 'specially Guthrie are nice towns, or they were the last time I checked but... a long drive awaits you.
Piedmont would be a good choice for what you say you want. Mustang too. Deer Creek area, great schools. Even Bethany is not bad.
Correct on all points.
Wife and I loved our 7 years in OK. It would be easy to move back there, but my family has lived in this county in Texas since 1889. And we have spent last 10 years taking care of sick family memebers here. This is home but we still have many friends in OK.
