This week's theme: Standards--Then & Now (2013)
This week's mentor is Harry Connick Jr.
Two songs each again. First batch will be the "now" songs, music from 2013.
Angie's first with Rhianna's "Diamonds". Back on the Steinway again (black). First time hearing this song. She does a good job with it. Songs are full-length this week, it seems ... or maybe it just feels like it because this song is boring.
Keith: I didn't feel that was the song to change the arrangment to. I could see you melodically wanting to go places. You just want to soar. You should just let your spirit soar with the melody.
Minaj: (wearing a different wig--also black) This seems different than any of your other piano performances. Making more eye-contact with the audience. Bland. Lackluster.
Randy: Interesting choice. Great song. It's not a song that supports changing the arrangement. No where to go. Once you hit the chorus, that was it. I didn't love it.
Mariah: (also complains about the arrangement change) A bit of a sense that you were playing to the camera. You did a great job.
I have a hunch Angie may be packing her toothbrush and power sander tonight, if she doesnt kick it up a notch!
