MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. The images will be vivid, history will be haunting, ghosts will be everywhere.
This is Knute Rockne versus Bear Bryant, Touchdown Jesus versus Dreamland Bar-B-Que, Four Horsemen versus Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Montana versus Joe Namath, and, of course, in the battle of the little guys, Rudy versus Nick.
It will be a football game bathed in a complicated mess of legend, religion and roughhousing, but most folks think Monday's BCS national championship heavyweight fight between Alabama and Notre Dame can be symbolized by a single disparity.

Also what are your snack foods for this game? I used coupons to score 6 FREE jumbo avocados last week and they have ripened much quicker than expected so now converting most of them into guacamole. Also I used coupons today to score a big bag of FREE Mission round tortilla chips to go with the guacamole. Just getting over a cold so no beer although I might sip on vodka.
Alabama is a 10 point favorite on a neutral site.
Hype.
Tide Rolls.
Saban will refuse to humiliate them. But it won’t be close.
Nobidy needs it more. Roll Tide!
The author’s daughter also attends Notre Dame. Not an unbiased opinion.
Nobody needs it more. Roll Tide!
Sorry, Domers...
This isn’t your first dance on the big stage, so stop acting like it is.
Tide Rolls Again (and this from a Big 10er)....
The weird thing is that if I drive one block, turn right, keep driving straight, it would take me to the BCS game in about 40 minutes. Been raining on and off today so don’t know what the weather will be like at kickoff.
Gumbo and Cheese Straws at my place tonight! Got the fellas from the sub coming over and I do believe we’ll be sailing with Capt. Morgan tonight! Roll Tide!!
I don’t think you can have a top game in history unless there is some significant offense that shows up. So, hype.
Nice defense, though. Hope nobody gets hurt when immovable object meets immovable object.
Hats off to you on being a savvy shopper!
Alabama has both a great defense and a great offense. Notre Dame has a great defense and an average offense.
That says that ND will give up more points than does Alabama, and that means that ‘Bama will win.
However, Brian Kelly knows that preparation for just one game deciding it all is the place to create unheard of razzle-dazzle. If Kelly’s razzle-dazzle works, then ND could be in this game. A graduate of Cincinnati, Kelly’s last head coaching job, I do agree that Kelly is an offensive genius, and the one who might be just the guy to create the tricksiest trick-plays of this young century.
Alabama by 7.
Heh. “Echo through the ages.” Like the last Notre Dame championship echoed through a 24-year canyon.
SnakeDoc
OVER-RATED. Alabama by 17 or more tonight vs. Field Goal Jesus. Can’t wait for Kelly’s head to explode on national TV.
Saban will do what it takes to win decisively.
OTOH, a humiliation might shut up their fan base for another couple of years, but it’s doubtful. hasn’t worked before.
Count on endless complaining about officiating should the Domers lose....
I am a Southern Baptist boy who has been a huge Notre Dame fan since the day I saw Johnny Lattner take a hand-off up the middle for a 30-yard touchdown on black-and-white TV. But this whole thing is hype. I will root and pull for Our Lady, but we are so going to get our head stomped.
I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about sports anymore.
Holds about as much importance to me as reading the funny papers.
