220th Anniversary: James Madison Drinks, and Writes an Article

Today, on my 20th anniversary at Free Republic, I'm pinging my Federalist/Anti-Federalist friends, and Canteen DJ friends, for my annual Christmas post of a little short story I wrote five years ago at FR about how James Madison wrote an essay.

So tell me, did you get any Atlas Shrugged flashbacks the other day when that Amtrak train left the rails?

Very well written...it is interesting to note that even though both Hamilton and Madison may have left the administration, Washington did not continue a relationship of any kind with Jefferson past a coldly formal acknowledgement as their lives moved forward after that.

From what I know, Washington was quite angry about the whispering campaign started by Jefferson implying that he was too enfeebled to carry the intellectual responsibility of government, and was instead a puppet of the Alexander faction of politics (as I understand it).

I can tell reading this that you are more disposed to Madison than Hamilton, which is okay by me...I admit that I am more attracted to the personality and intellect of Hamilton which seems less...how do I say this...egg-headed than Hamilton does, who appears to me more emotionally aggressive and populistic (not sure if that is a word) than Madison.

And I say that even if I don’t agree with every view point formed by Hamilton!

I am always appalled when I see a veteran who is a Democrat. I just seems so out of character with the “God, Country, Family” mindset that can still be found in the military.

There are several posthumous members kept in the ping list. When it was passed to me, I was asked to keep them in the list and I heartily agreed. Their accounts are maintained on FreeRepublic as many were important contributors and their sage advice is as valuable now as it was then.

I hesitate to run the list against the entries in the FreeRepublic Memorial Wall as it would break my spirit. We stand on the shoulders of giants.

May your memories of them invoke fond remembrance of conversations past. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a Happy New Year.

I got to know Dr. Raoul personally from the DC Chapter activities, which me and another Massachusetts Freeper would drive down to participate in.

I so admired him. He had no fear. He would go head to head with the liberal moonbats and not give it a second thought. (I tend to get angry and emotional when I encounter them, so I can’t engage in good give and take with them)

I remember he used to have a gray baseball cap with “Halliburton” embroidered in red on the front of it, and he grinned at me one day when I asked him, and he said it was like waving a red cape in front of a bull, they literally would start foaming at the mouth!

When he passed, we drove down for his service. Heck of a guy. See...I had a big grin on my face as I was typing this so...yes...it did invoke fond memories there!

Of the three people who died on that train, two were friends of mine. One was our newsletter editor for 35 years, and the other, his cousin, was our database administrator. I suspect they were walking in the car while taking pictures for the newsletter. Had they been seated, they might have survived.

It's too much like the train that disappeared into the tunnel in Atlas Shrugged and never came out. The innocent die.

Regrettably, there is only one agent who specializes in books like ours, and he had too much business to help us. He suggested academic publishers.

Unfortunately, academic publishers aren't interested in things like original intent. Had our book been about how Hamilton, Madison and Jay were gay lovers or transgendered, we would have had a sale.
