Since you have a passport, why not just take public transportation to Mexico. Then it’s not an issue...

If you don’t have a license you don’t have valid insurance either.

Do you really think Mexico will let you stay without identification? They jail their illegal immigrants.

Fly or take a bus. Also, i believe that they will want to make sure your car is not staying in Mexico anyway.

If you’re near San Diego, why don’t you just take the trolley down to the border and cross at San Ysidro? Take your passport, other forms of ID if you have that and plenty of money. That way you won’t have to worry about driving here or there without a license.

Did you read that story yesterday about the American vet they have chained to his bed in a Mexican prison? Don’t mess around. “Justice” in Mexico is not what you want to deal with. It’s politically incorrect to say, but Mexico is totally third world. It’s a drug cartel paradise. And HATES gringos to boot.

Mexico is totally corrupt and foreigners have no rights without embassy pressure. Peasants flood over the border for a reason. Also, when you travel to Mexico, if you get injured, you have to pay up front cash for any medical care. They will be happy to let a foreigner die.

Justice means nothing if a corrupt asss nabs you...you are an American milk cow. I live in Texas. Many people I know don’t even go there anymore. That includes people who have settled here from Mexico.

No. But if you're Mexican national you can drive here w/o one.

I live just a few short miles from the US/Mexican border. And I know few people who have crossed that border in their lives more than I have. But I will never return and I advise all Americans to stay away.

You have no drivers license, do you have insurance? It doesn’t make much difference, it would be null and void in Mexico anyway. Why would anyone take their personal vehicle to Mexico when odds are that it isn’t going to go well?

It isn't important why I dont have a drivers license.

It is if you're driving with a revoked license........You're in violation of the law dude and considering your nonchalance on this issue, I hope you get busted.

As for your desire to attempt to enter Mexico without valid ID, I even question your motivation in doing so........You don't sound like the type of person I want to travel abroad with.

If you get stopped in Mexico without any driver’s license, its going to cost you some money. Probably whatever you’ve got in your wallet, if they like you. More if they don’t.

I was stopped with an expired license, and after a friendly conversation and a sincere offer to go with him back to the station, I got the fee down to what I had in my pocket. He was a nice guy.

Just tell them the car you’re driving is stolen and you won’t have any problem.

I never would drive south of that border without 2 good forms of ID for the American side. For the Mexican side I take at least 500.00 in 20’s, split up and hidden and a copy of my border insurance. If going to Mexico I’d highly recommend a rental with Mexican plates.

If you as a gringo drive in Mexico without a license and without approved Mexican insurance and get stopped plan on going to jail and staying there until your trial. Then you will need to prove you didn’t break the law or you’ll be spending time in jail. If you are in an accident even if you aren’t at fault you’ll be in jail for a very long time.

You MUST have a valid DL to drive into Mexico. The largest obstacle is the insurance - you need to either call your agent to see if they will issue the appropriate docs for Mexico or you MUST stop at a border agency to buy a Mexican policy. Be sure to have your registration or rental contract as well. Also make DAMN SURE you do not have a firearm in your vehicle or any stray ammo - it can garner you a life sentence in Mexico.

I drive into Mexico several times per year.

This is either complicated or simple, where are you going to enter Mexico and return? San Ysidro or another Port of Entry? Do you want to gamble with your dad’s car and your freedom? Is it imperitive to travel by car to Mexico or is their an alternative such as having someone else drive? Are you at least 18? If not forgetabbout it...How long will you be there and how far south are you going, do you need a visa? Do you know the requirements?

Chances are you will not be asked for a license going into Mexico, but if you get a red light in their customs line you might be, and you certainly will be talked to and have to open your trunk. Occasionally US Customs stops vehicle southbound for checks and questions occupants. Coming back you maybe asked for registration and even license. 99.9% chance your license plates will be entered into the Teasury computer (TECS) if you have a Treasury issue it may or may not pop up...since you have a passport, apparently you owe less than $2500 in child support or its something else or an old passport...

Now the simple part, does dear old dad know you want to drive his car without valid US (or Mexico) insurance in Mexico, and did he give you written permission? Do you have bail money or would you call daddy to bail you out?

Oh yeah if you go about 10 miles south of Tijuana dont be surprised to get stopped by Federales in uniform carrying fast and furious type weapons to check you out for contraband...If that happens you will probably crap your pants...
