Have there ever been twins born in the entire British royal history??? This would support the idea that a twin might have been sent elsewhere.

That is (somewhat) the premise of Alexandre Dumas’ “The Man in the Iron Mask”.
One of the twins was taken away to prison and nobody was allowed to see his face. Aramis (one of the Three Muskateers) plots to free him and put him on the throne.
