One in 29 French people don't take a shower even once a WEEK - while 13% do not wash their hands after using the toilet
One in 29 people in France only take a shower once a week, according to a new survey.
The study into French washing habits also found that one in five do not shower every day.
On the other end of the scale, 11.5 per cent of French men and women shower several times daily.
Hand washing, too, is not always a priority for the French, said pollster BVA, which was commissioned to carry out the survey by hygiene product company Tork. One eighth of those questioned said they didnt bother washing their hands after going to the toilet and 45 per cent admitted they didnt scrub up after being on public transport even though 54% thought buses and trains were the dirtiest objects in daily life.
More than one in five said they didnt wash their hands before sitting down for a meal.
The bath is in decline with only 18 per cent of French people who take one once a week and 61% who say they do not bathe frequently.
The French are more aware of hygiene when they are cooking - 86.6 per cent say they always wash their hands before preparing food.
Young people are also less concerned about cleaning toilets than their elders: from 18 to 34 years, 18.9 per cent cleaned the toilet every day, against 44.9 per cent for those aged 50 to 64 years and 58.7 per cent of those over 65.

I can't figure out if this means the French are improving their hygiene or if they are becoming even stinkier. The numbers seem too high nonetheless ... IMO

Did they track how many even use toilets?
Per fumed.
Pretty sure that 10 years ago, in the U.S., the percentage that don’t wash after using the bathroom was 39%.
...but, that’s because they shower daily....
French by decent or French by immigration?
Guess it’s better not to get anything that is truly genuine, “authentic french”. You’ll be getting a lot more than you bargained for.
Reminds me of the chef who said “I like to put a little bit of me in every dish.”
I'll bet those same people are the ones that write blogs.

I can’t speak for everyone, of course. But *my* Dad trained me, at a young age, how not to pee on my hand. :-)
>> no sink
Why would you NEED a sink in a missile nosecone?
>> I’d say easily 50% of the students and staff don’t wash after using the bathroom where I work.
I hope you don’t work in a culinary school.
I must admit that I’m not as fanatical about hygiene as some people. Showering every day dries out the skin, bath oil and lotion or not. Every other day, with washing up on the off day works for me. Of course, I’ve always had a home office and didn’t go out amongst the public every day. Husband is even nastier than I am. Handwashing frequently, especially after going to the bathroom and before eating is a good idea. A few germs will do you good. - A few years ago, I read a newspaper article by a doctor that advised, in fact, not to shower every day because of dry skin. I also read that actually soap and water isn’t the panacea that some claim; that really the friction of rubbing the hands together under warm running water for a while is what dispenses with the germs. Unlike Michelle, I wish people to do as they like, no matter how dry their skin gets. :o) - Best regards, Stinky Twinkie
It’s one of my favorite punch lines when somebody thinks they’re being cute, and ask if I’d washed.
“I didn’t pee on them.”
That answer is insufficient regarding “other” business.....
That’s only roughly 3%. I bet we have far more than that here that don’t shower.
I hate public restrooms. People run their hands under the water with no soap, or use soap and wash for about half a second, and that’s “clean” for them.
I thank God for bleach and disinfectants.
..and if you're not careful,
It stick to your cheeks

I thought this was fitting. (I couldn't help myself.)
