Wholesale Gasoline Shortage In California Causes Gas Stations To Shut Down: Hoarding Next?
Zero Hedge ^ | 10/4/12 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 10/04/2012 12:07:55 PM PDT by Kartographer

"The squeeze is on, and people are doing desperate things," is how one independent described the situation in California. As Bloomberg reports, a shortage of supply along with drastically higher wholesale prices of gasoline has caused 'mom-and-pop' gas stations to close down as their margins are destroyed. Even larger firms, such as CostCo, are closing sites due to the shortages as Los Angeles and San Francisco gas prices jump 30-45c in a few days.

As one owner noted: "I can get gas, but it’s going to cost me $4.90 a gallon, and I can’t sell it here for $5," and another added that "we’re going to start shutting pumps Friday, as gas is costing me almost $4.75 a gallon with taxes. There’s no sense in staying open. The profit margins are so low it’s not worth it."

We can't. Our electricity rates are already astronomical and the Enviroweenies won't allow us to build new power plants or transmission lines even if we wanted the overpriced little electric jitneys.

Isn't it an odd coincidence that this gas shortage is happening just before the election in a normally all-Blue state? I wonder how the Sahara Clubbers will get to work and to their beloved exclusive wilderness areas?

We have enough to get our planned vehicles to the bugout regardless of their fuel state when ‘realization’ sets in.

If this goes the wrong way, it could be the trigger for a full-scale economic collapse.

Could be just the ‘October Surprise’ ‘Bama’ needs to hold on.

Lots of conflicting signals in this economy. We’re vacationing in HI, currently on Oahu. We took a tour yesterday & our guide was telling us how busy October has been for the locals - a month when things usually quiet down. He figured if it was this busy in the ‘slow’ month, all h*ll will break out when they’re busy season starts around November/December vacations.

BTW, gas here is around $4.50/gal.

If gas shortages in the US is Bammy’s idea of an October surprise, that will not be in Barky’s favor. It will further Jimmah Carterize the Bamster.

Are you kidding? This has the earmarks of a disaster for Obama. If gas goes above five bucks in California (or worse nationwide) he will be exposed the complete and utter failure he is.

Today $4.35 at a lower end station.
Read this article and went out and filled up even though I’m at half full.

California cars are special. They have very sensitive engines that will only accept a diet of special blends not available elsewhere. So the prices may seem high but this is gourmet gasoline, freshly squeezed from the finest oils.

Californians may find it inconvenient not being able to use the gasoline others do but they’re willing for others to make the sacrifice. Welcome to California!

I saw regular for $4.75 in the South SF Bay Area today. Gas has gone up 20 cents in the last two days.

"I can get gas, but it’s going to cost me $4.90 a gallon, and I can’t sell it here for $5,"

Can someone explain this? Is there a state cap on gasoline prices? Why can't the guy price it at whatever he needs to make his profit? Somebody is going to buy it, people gotta drive....
