Comedian Phyllis Diller -- who paved the way for today's female comics -- has died, TMZ has learned.

Sources close to Diller tell us the comedian died at her L.A. home, surrounded by family. She was 95.

We're told Diller had recently fallen, hurting her wrist and hip, and her health had been on the decline ever since. She had been living in hospice care at her home.

Diller suffered a heart attack in 1999 and was later fitted with a pacemaker.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. I’ve lost quite a few furbabies in my life but I still love sharing my life with them for as long as I can. He/she will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

My sincere condolences. One of the little known talents possessed by the average dog is the uncanny ability to wrap himself so tightly around human heartstrings, causing so much pain when that furry friend dies.

Thank you both. A friend from Australia wrote me on Fakebook:” The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master”

I always loved her definition of "the perfect man".

Have been there, done that, you always look to where they lay, look over and remember the fond memories.

“Do the same for musicians too. From big bands and early rock & roll to the crap of the last 20 years.”

Ahem.

“What the heck is this Elvis garbage? You call that music?”

— Your dad, 1957

Anyway, Phyllis Diller was part of what Time Magazine in 1960 called “The New Wave Comedians”, guys like Bruce, Newhart, Sellers, and Allen who began their careers after WWII and had no connection to vaudeville. Essentially, they invented modern standup comedy and made the college crowd their audience. It reflected the development of a more sophisticated and better-educated America during the 50s that had evolved beyond laughing at the Three Stooges hitting each other in the heads with mallets (note that the Stooges’ postwar stuff was primarily aimed at children rather than adults).

Is this thread still about the brilliant comedienne Phyllis Diller? If so:

Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace. Amen.

Anima eius, et animæ omnium fidelium defunctorum, per misericordiam Dei, requiescant in pace. Amen.
