abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

(in statistics)

mean (or arithmetic mean) =

the mean obtained

by adding several quantities together and dividing the sum by the number of

quantities: the arithmetic mean of 1, 5, 2, and 8 is 4.

median =

the middle number in a given sequence of numbers, taken as

the average of the two middle numbers when the sequence has an even number of

numbers: 4 is the median of 1, 3, 4, 8, 9.

Origin of mean:

before 900; Middle English mene, aphetic variant ( see y-) of imene, Old English gemǣne; cognate with Dutch gemeen,

German gemein common, Gothic gamains in common; compare common

Origin of median:

1535–45; < Latin mediānus in the middle. See medium, -an

Here is my example with WFTD:

During the election season, we are flooded with economic statistics. Democrats will

use the ones that shows Obama in the most favorable least unfavorable light.

The mean household income in this country will be significantly higher than the

median income, since the former is skewed by those one-percenters who bring the

average up, while the latter is calculated by placing all of the household incomes

in order and choosing the one in the middle. In other words, exactly half of the

households earn more than the median income, and exactly half earn less.

No pushing at the door please!

So, if we rate each of Harry Reid’s lies as follows:

Little White Lies - 1 point
Big Black Lies - 2 points
Holy Cow Whoppers - 3 points

And, for argument’s sake, let’s say he’s told the following number of lies:

Little White Lies - 50,000
Big Black Lies - 100,000
Holy Cow Whoppers - 10,000

Then the mean of Harry Reid’s meanness would be:
(50,000 + 2x100,000 + 3x10,000)/160,000 = 1.75

And the median of his meanness would be 2? (Did I get that right?)

And if you have a bowl of ice cream while you’re calculating all of this, you’re calculating Reid’s mean meanness a la mode.

We keep trying to bring up trivialities like the unbalanced budget, the incredible deficit, and the staggering unemployment rate. They would rather talk about important subjects, like how many hairs Mitt Romney cut off a fellow student a half century ago, or the ratio of taxes to income he paid on his 1979 return.

told you i was doing zumba! i actually have rhythm and know how to dance in the latin style which is at least a slight leg up, but coordinating the arm/feet movements is challenging, but the music is GREAT! i am asking for her entire play list next week, this was the cool down song and is by far my fave. DUTTY LOVE by DON OMAR. never heard of it, but itunes had it.
