Beach-goers in China wear nylon masks to beat the sun's rays

In a radical approach to protecting themselves from the sun, beach-goers in Qingdao, China's Shandong province don colourful nylon masks over their heads.

The mask, which was invented by a woman about seven years ago, is used to block the sun's rays.

The mask is under mass production and is on sale at local swimwear stores.

However, the masks are still rare on the beach, with more swimmers sticking with good old sunscreen.

With those bodies I’m not surprised they wear a mask. ;-)

The choice was either their husbands having to wear a mask when they were with them or the ladies wearing the mask. Guess who won? ;-)

Chinese manufacturers are puzzled by the large order of 10,000 masks to be sent to a South Chicago address. They didn’t think the sun was that bad there.

The husband version is similar, but without the holes for the eyes.

Very creepy looking. Don’t think it will catch on in America, except maybe with bank robbers. Rob a bank, head straight to the beach!

I’ve been to a few beaches on China’s Hainan Island and never say anything like this. That was a few years ago. I wonder if things changes. I also never say fat people like that there either.

My wife is Chinese and she avoids the sun. She claims that in the area that she came from a tan insinuated farm worker. The lighter the skin, the more affluent.
