Rage

Posted on 07/05/2012 10:05:58 PM PDT by mamelukesabre

I've heard people use the expression "out of my mind", "temporary insanity", "I wasn't myself", etc. I've never paid much attention to these expressions and always believed them to be BS.

Then I experienced it this 4th of July.

No point in going into too many details leading up to the event. It did not end in violence or damage to personal property. I received a series of threats via voicemail, phone calls, and text messages. And then something changed in my brain. It was like a switch was turned on. The rage was so intense and powerful and instantaneous it was like a drug had been injected into my veins. I actually had about 5 out-of-body experiences each lasting just a couple seconds at most. I remember very little of the next few hours that came after the threats. During those brief out-of-body experiences I observed myself saying and doing things that did not come from me. It was like there were two people inside my head and the one that wasn't me had taken over during those brief out-of-body periods. When I was inside my own body, my brain still was not functioning properly. I could not remember from one moment to the next what I was doing. I would be saying things and forget the previous sentence I had just said, but kept on shouting anyway. I doubt I was making any sense whatsoever. This wasn't just a moment of anger. The whole episode lasted 2 hours easily.

Resisting the rage was exhausting and I did not want to continue resisting. I wanted to force a face to face meeting so I could let it out. Luckily that never happened. There was no face to face meeting.

I have never experienced this before and hope I never do again. I think there is some kind of dormant insanity in my head. I don't know how else to explain how I could have another person in there.

I now believe temporary insanity is real.

Sometimes things build up inside us like a pressure cooker and there has to be a release valve flipped once in awhile.

I wish you well.

Self-preservation kicking-in?

How serious were these threats?

Stealth and treachery should see you through this problem. Never let them know you are in the area.

I think most of us have been out of our heads with anger a time or two. But as you say, there was no violence or damage, so you were able to contain it. But you do need to deal with someone who is threatening you. A restraining order for starters. Keep a cool head, and an eye out, and good luck to you!

Extreme anger - even when justified - can lead to a mini-stroke. Then your adversary has won a complete victory. Deny him that. Stay as calm as possible.

Life has its up and downs. And my attitude to deal with the downs, whatever they may be, is to turn a bad situation into a good one. If some local crazy is bothering you, use the opportunity to remove yourself from their vicinity. Always concentrate on improving your situation. Never go down the road where the external forces are trying to send you. Because then, you lose control.

New things are often scary but dwell on the experience. Embrace the emotion. Learn to evoke it as needed. Master the tool. Use it.

“Rage?” Did you see the movie, “28 Days Later?”

[Maybe a little humor will help.]

Sage, sound advice. I once knew a major in my chain of command whose favorite expression around all those "Type-A" infantry lieutenants (like me) was:

"Age, experience and treachery shall overcome youth, skill and enthusiasm... every time."

Could have been demonic. Not saying you are “demon-possessed” at all.

But could have been demonic.......

Ask God for insight to what was going on......He knows.....

Never been that far off the *Deep end* to have memory loss and *out of body experiences*.
I do have a pretty good temper at times, I usually put on the light gloves and go hit the heavy bag a while in my workshop.
Good workout and calms me down a bunch blowing of steam like that.

For what it's worth.

Threats via voicemail, emails, and text messages should be logged. Who are they from? (consider the source). Don't get mad, get Glad! You pissed somebody off, good. 50% of America doesn't give-a-sh*t. They'll squeal when anyone threatens to pull them from their favorite teat.

Ps, don't do Facebook with politics. That's where you go to air dirty laundry. Politics is personal and next November a lot of us will be getting very personal, if you know what I mean.

I don’t think I contained anything. I went to meet the guy and he didn’t show up.
