Two new studies indicate that people who suffer sleep apnea have a higher risk of developing cancer.
Due to be presented in San Francisco this week at an American Thoracic Society conference, the findings have been touted as "striking" by researchers, the New York Times reported.

Correlation is not causation.
I’ll bet it is fat people who both have sleep apnea and get cancer.
6’ 1”, 180 lbs.
You are WRONG!
That would be more like “Zzzzzzzzz.........zzz........zzzzz........”
They can sure s-t-r-e-t-c-h a “correlation study” to encompass so many other groups of people with scare tactics, it’s almost criminal how much alarm and fright they generate.
One has always to ask, “To what financial end-gain are they doing this?” Someone or some group always benefits from these trash-study tactics.
The correlation usually proves unrelated, unreliable and total BS over time, if true scientific methodology is applied; something they neglect to do in the first place.
You are not in the norm of people with sleep apnea. Most are overweight and that is the prime reason for it.
There is also a link to some cancers and obesity.
Wrong! I’m not fat and have Sleep Apnea and have had Cancer.
There are multiple reasons a person might have sleep apnea. Untreated sleep apnea can cause weight gain so chicken/egg issues. I have two family members on the C-pap and one has sleep apnea because she had a cocleal implant and the other one has multiple health issues so it’s unclear why he has sleep apnea. It’s a complex disorder.
Here’s a medical update to help you recognize “norm”:
Due to significant increase in Head & Neck cancer and the corresponding radiation treatment, neck muscles get wrecked.
Swallowing and epiglottis function are compromised.
Sleep apnea ensues.
Non-smoker, non-drinker.....
I’ll take that bet Miltie! I’ve run three marathons, seven half-marathons, countless 10k’s and 5k’s and am an active practitioner of Combat Hapkido and I have sleep apnea.
I know other physically fit individuals with the same problem.
Make peace with yuor C-Pap machines people. They’ll do you good.
Correlation indicates the presence of a physical law ...
Find it.
Yes, he’s wrong. I worked with a guy who was about 5’6” and slim, and had sleep apnea very badly.
My sleep apnea disappeared as soon as I eliminated wheat and gluten from my diet.
It also depends on the type of sleep apnea. There is the obstructive sleep apnea, and there is the type where your brain stops sending the signal to breathe. I happen to have both, and the c-pap machines don’t help because I can’t sleep with the blasted thing on me....
So does breathing.
Exactly.
Rush used to do a (make a specific health issue point) routine where he said that someone who’d eaten carrots, drank water, eaten bread, drank coffee etc etc etc got cancer/died within the past year. True. Haven’t heard that one in a while.
Thanks for stepping-in and fixing this post; I didn’t know -yes, I should by now - about LA Times problems. Sorry.
LOLOL! Good catch, s_y!
