When bammie was an unknown he had to come up with some way to get noticed so he adopted the born in Kenya meme as a way to garner attention.

That all works fine and dandy while he is an aspiring writer and subsequent Senator but now that he is the POTUS, he has to tell the truth and admit he was really born in Hawaii.
