DANVERS — For two North Shore families, the wedding Saturday night at the Danversport Yacht Club will be memorable — for all the wrong reasons.
The mother of the groom ended up in handcuffs, another young woman was also arrested, and the groom himself may be facing assault charges, police said.
Darlene DeIorio, 45, of Revere pleaded not guilty to charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest during her arraignment Monday in Salem District Court.
Danvers police were called to the function hall just after midnight Sunday for a report of a "groom out of control."
It all started when the groom's brothers tried to buy drinks at the bar and were refused. The groom was "irate" and began yelling at an employee, according to Patrolman Scott Frost's report.
When a member of the bride's family asked him to calm down, he grew more enraged, punching a wall and tearing the coat room apart, police said. The bride's brother tried to intervene and wound up being punched.
As the groom and his new brother-in-law wrestled on the floor, the groom's mother, Darlene DeIorio, went after the bride's mom, police said.
By the time police arrived, there was a large crowd of people around the two women. Officers eventually pulled DeIorio away and took her outside. But somehow, she managed to get back inside, where police spotted her throwing a chair across the floor and then attacking another woman.
Meanwhile, the groom was "out of control," Frost said in his report, but left before police could arrest him.
Paige Cinelli, a woman who was with the groom's brother, was arrested when she attacked another woman, police said. The groom's brother was placed into protective custody because of his high level of intoxication, police said.
Meanwhile, back at the police cruiser, DeIorio had managed to get her cuffed hands in front of her and was pounding on the window, while her mother, the groom's grandmother, was demanding that police release her.
A Danvers police prosecutor said that the groom will be summonsed to a clerk's hearing on assault charges at a future date.
The second person arrested at the event, Cinelli, 18, of Revere, was charged with disorderly conduct, but was placed in a diversion program that will allow her to avoid a court appearance if she complies with a series of conditions.
DeIorio, who was released on personal recognizance, is due back in court June 15.

I’m guessing that this kind of thing happens rather frequently in the groom’s family. If the bride has any brains at all, she’ll get out of this marriage immediately.
Gee Whizz! My groom and I had such a “boring” wedding. (Of course that was 50 yrs ago. I guess times have changed since then—LOL!)
What a way to start a marriage. Unfortunately this plays right into the north shore stereotype in MA.

Ha...actually the wedding (or at least the wedding reception) was at the Danversport Yacht Club which is on Rt 62 just off Rt 128.
I wonder if this particular reception’s invitation had the magical words... “Open Bar”...
What exactly would you mean by “Jersey Shore North?”
The bride’s father is a police officer. I did a little investigating. I was curious to know who the bride and groom were, and I found their names and their wedding registries.
That’s what someone left on the comments—I don’t want it but there’s the TV show Jersey Shore which is the one that has “Snooki”. (Snooki was in the 3 Stooges movie I saw the other night). Comparing it to the show...
