Live Out Your Walking Dead Fantasies In This Abandoned Tennessee Prison - Modern Ruins
We're going to have to wait until season three of The Walking Dead TV show to see the zombie-filled prison. But if you're near Nashville, you can visit the Tennessee State Prison, an abandoned penitentiary. It looks like the zombies got to it first.
Even before it fell into decay, this prison suffered plenty of woes at the hands of its prisoners. In 1902, a group of prisoners blew out a wing of the facility, killing one prisoner and allowing others to escape (two were never recaptured). In 1907, another group busted down the front gate with a stolen switch engine, and in 1938, they staged a mass escape. In later years, it was plagued by fires and riots, and it was finally shut down in 1992.
Its post-penitentiary years were a bit happier, as it served as a filming location for The Green Mile, The Last Castle, Ernest Goes to Jail, and several other movies and shows. Perhaps it would make a nice spot for The Walking Dead's film crew.

Luv the oven/stove hood.
I’m going to put this on my bucket list.
Great series. Too bad the creator Frank Darabont is a loony liberal but he was canned so it’s under a different team.
Why do political conservatives like the AMC television show “The Walking Dead”? It’s a show about people who catch a dread virus and mutate into brain-dead eating machines with a taste for human blood. Most of the world is ravaged by this virus, and you find yourself rooting for the intrepid band of uninfected humans who are trying to survive in the apocalyptic aftermath.

Because we met Darabont here in L.A. a year ago. I’ll give you a hint: check out season 1 and notice how many times the US flag is inverted inside the trailer van and he told us he never liked the US military. He told this out in the open and we kept quiet..
There was a reason why he changed the ending of Stephen King’s THE MIST. He intentionally added the ending of American soldiers burning everything and more US soldiers shooting everything, which was added in the script.
And did you check out the AIDS remark 4 episodes ago? it’s not like there’s a Freeper working on that production (cough)
I’m not a big fan of Zombie flicks but I love The Walking Dead. Zombieland is also good.
That a Hollywood director is a leftist liberal who adds little propaganda details into his works is of no surprise.
I honestly don’t recall the upside down flag in season 1, though it could have simply referred to a distress signal during a zombie apocalypse?
I did catch the AIDS remark a few episodes ago.
I used to read lots of Stephen King novels when I was in the navy during the 80s (I did have some free time when on deployments). I vaguely remember reading The Mist, and watching the movie several years ago. I quit reading King years ago because I am just tired of his recycled plot lines which also include a rabid hatred of the U.S. military.
His latest novel (I think) has something to do with a time traveler trying to stop the JFK assassination. If he holds true to previous plot lines, his real culprit of JFK’s death is the intolerant south (i.e., Dallas Texas) and/or the Dallas Police Dept.
King just cannot buy that Kennedy was shot by a commie who visited Cuba.
Thanks for posting the cellblock pics with the article. Brings back memories of my time as a rookie hack in 1980 at Auburn Prison in Auburn, NY. Retired a little over 8 years ago.
Can you refresh my memory about the AIDS remark? My husband and I are so hooked on this show-—it’s like crack. When it goes off, you can’t wait for the next episode. That’s why we stay tuned to Talking Dead-—so we can feed our addiction a bit more.
The ending to the film version of “The Mist” made us feel like we’d been mugged. Good movie right up until that point, and then you left the theater feeling miserable and depressed. It was a lousy thing to do.
“Can you refresh my memory about the AIDS remark?”
“The ending to the film version of The Mist made us feel like wed been mugged.”
*****
4 of the major actor/characters from the MIST are in The Walking Dead. That includes the woman who asked everyone in the store to come out and find her daughter and no one helped her while she walked out...eventually seen with her daughter in a US army truck being escorted out.
She plays the mother of Sophia in the Walking Dead.
On the AIDS remark, the old dude who owns the farm was narrating how science has developed cures for everything including the zombie disease and they will eventually overcome it....then ‘slips in the remark that even humans developed a “cure” for AIDS. I have the DVDSCR episode given to us by AMC but will get back on the actual remark.
Going back to the MIST, the original ending was that it was an open ending. Not the depressing crap added to the movie.
Holy cow, you’re right-—I just checked IMDb’s cast list for “The Mist”. Laurie Holden, who plays Andrea in “The Walking Dead”, was one of the main characters.
I do remember the AIDS remark now....it came when Rick and Hershel were out on the porch talking, right after Rick’s arrival. I also noticed that they made Merle, the bad guy, into a Republican. When Darryl got injured in the woods during the hunt for Sophia, he had that delirious vision of Merle, who accused him of associating with Democrats-—the good guys. Typical Hollywood, I suppose.
Very cool that you work on the show. Freepers are everywhere, LOL.
