Three-quarters of Georgias likely GOP primary voters are evangelical Christians and half are very conservative -- and they heavily favor Newt Gingrich, according to a Mason-Dixon Poll conducted for the Georgia Newspaper Partnership, of which the Ledger-Enquirer is a member.
In addition to evangelical Christians and very conservative voters, Gingrich especially appeals to rural voters, residents of north Georgia, those with less than a college education and those with incomes below $50,000.

The poll surveyed 625 likely GOP primary voters Monday through Wednesday. Gingrich was the choice of 43 percent of respondents, followed by Mitt Romney with 29 percent, Rick Santorum with 12 percent and Ron Paul with 6 percent.
Georgians will go to the polls on March 6, Super Tuesday. With 76 GOP delegates, Georgia is the biggest prize among the 10 states voting that day.

IOW those Willie Mitty calls “ignorant Crackers”
I don’t think more Evangelicals support Newt over Santorum, as a general rule. I believe this is the case in Georgia, because of Newt’s home turf. He’s certainly not the epitome of family values, and the Evangelical leaders in Texas last month came to a consensus on Santorum.
He should win Georgia. If he doesn’t than he is done. I mean it is his home state for 20 years. I don’t think it is a bragging right to say you win Georgia. It is expected that he BETTER win Georgia.
You may not think that it is a bragging right but the 76 delegates that he gets from it will be!
He represented Georgia for 20 years. I don’t know of any person who has not won a state that they lived a big portion of their lives in.
Not the point. It is a delegates game and here is the reality right now. (and it is a LONG way from over)
Raw vote totals:
Romney- 1,121,497; Gingrich- 838,715; Santorum- 431,819; Paul- 307,866
Delegate count right now:
Romney-98, 25 of those are non-binding
Santorum- 44, 41 of those are non-binding
Gingrich- 32, 3 of those are non-binding
Paul- 20, 12 of those are non-binding
Total Delegate count needed to win- 1144
I am very curious how Arizona and Michigan turn out. Those are the next races. Newt should spend his time in Arizona and try to take that state. Santorum is working hard in Michigan trying to take that state.
Much to my dismay Romney is doing well here in AZ. The fact that he is a Mormon does not hurt him here.
Santorum won MO with only 6% of the eligible voters showing (and Newt not on the ballot) and gained 0 committed delegates; Santorum won Minn. with only 1% of eligiable voters and NO delegates; Santorum won Colorado with only 2% of eligible voters and 0 delegates.
Would not be so psyched out yet on Santorum sweeping the gop vote and being crowned president in Tampa at the gop convention...it ain’t gonna happen
Look. A win is a win. We could have had one person vote and if Santorum won that one person’s vote he would have won. All I am saying is the person getting all the attention now is Santorum. Newt is not even mentioned and he has not one scheduled event until the debate. Why can’t Newt go to Arizona and try to win there. Why is he taking so much time off? I don’t get it and as a cheerleader for him you should be able to explain that. Why did he only come in fourth place in Maine with 6 percent? He came in 3rd for the CPAC where you guys said he had the best speech. I just expect more from Newt. If he gets the nomination, I will vote for him but I am going to expect him to work every single day and not take a single day off.
in Maine? LOL surely you jest! that is a liberal left wing state and even Snowe the so called republican is a lefty. They hate Newt there and I am sure you understand why.
Do not count Newt out as to what he is doing today or planning...also, I am sure you are aware of CPAC? big time Romneybots.
In reality and fairness..I listened to every single candidate at CPAC and concluded with an open mind that Newt gave the best speech. The press was asking the crowd what they thought and so many were saying Newt. I dont trust CPAC. I left the republican party last year. Wont send them one dime but will and have sent money to Newt. Just like you are strong for Santorum..I feel that way about Gingrich. I know his flaws and his record. I know what he did as Speaker of the house and will fight for him to the end.
Even my soon-to-be hometown of Prescott Valley, that once was 'very conservative,' is loaded with more ex-CA dopes that lean left than solid conservatives that dominated in the not distant past.
I love your passion. I will take Newt or Santorum. I actually find this exciting. There is nothing better than watching Romney go down. I haven’t left the Republican party (voter registration card) but it won’t be long til I do especially if they force Romney on us.
Just because his website doesn’t say he has events scheduled right now doesn’t mean that he doesn’t. I will let you know tomorrow what his schedule is for the week. Quite frankly, I don’t mind him taking Sunday off :) I do. BUT I can tell you that he will be in GEORGIA, in my county, on Saturday morning and I will be there. As for CPAC, seriously, anybody can bus their “voters” in to participate in the straw poll. Since 2007 Mitt Romney has won 4 times and Ron Paul won twice. CPAC is now a vote to be “gamed”.
I can tell you that he will be in GEORGIA, in my county, on Saturday morning and I will be there.
I hope you get to hear him. That sounds exciting. I am glad that he is doing something and I definitely don’t mind Sunday off. I just wish he would go to Arizona. I think he could take that state. Even more than sticking it to Romney, I would LOVE to stick it to McCain with a Newt win. That would make me soooooo happy.
Much to my dismay Romney is doing well here in AZ.
Dang it. Newt get out there. I want to stick McCain in the eye even more than Romney. I am so disgusted with McCain and his pompous butt.
Thank you, you made my day as I am having trouble posting on FR. You asked me the other day about my supporting McCain vs Obama and cited it as an “out” lol...for Santorum endorsing Spector...well, the difference is I made a huge mistake and admit it....Santorum never admits any mistake and that bothers me too.
Like you, I am a registered republican but in my case..I dont send them money anymore and told them why on the phone. Just a few years or so ago..I was a big fan of Fox News and always voted republican...now I am a constitutionalist and Tea Party supporter.
Hang out on Mitt Romney Central Chat someday...his base of core supporters calls evangelicals “bigots” and “crackers” every few minutes.
