I lived in Minnestoopid for ten years. The sane people there are more likely from out of state, doing the real work, and taking crap from the natives. MN is a state where people think it’s “protected political speech” to key a car if one does not like the bumper sticker (a bit of a one sided protection, BTW). I have written off that state as hopeless.

I sum up Minnesota (especially Minneapolis) with “can’t talk to a psycho like a normal human being”.
My advice: Don’t discuss politics with family members. It puts extra unnecessary strains on relationships that sometimes are already fragile. And it’s a big waste of time—you’re not going to change anyone’s opinion, especially Obama fanatics. They will always find some little tidbit to counter her argument. My family is probably 50-50 in party affiliation and I could probably guess how everyone votes, with the exception of one member who never gives his opinion or makes comments, even when a major story is in the news. He keeps it to himself, so we never really know how he votes. And, surprise, surprise-—he gets along with everyone and doesn’t create issues and arguments with anyone. My recommendation: Tell your wife to keep their topics of discussion to the weather, family events, shopping, movies/TV, sports, etc. She’ll have a better relationship without stress and her Thanksgiving dinner will be a LOT more enjoyable.
