Chances Obama will launch full scale attack of Iran

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/around-the-world-abc-news/u-iran-collision-course-074216893.html

From first link:

"Two things are certain: the Republicans, who are now goading Obama for being soft on Iran and beating their own war drums, would reverse course in mid air with nary a blink and accuse the president of playing politics with American lives and needlessly embroiling it in a war which probably could have been avoided if he had been tough on Iran in the first place.

And what about the Jewish vote? That would be Obama’s, lock, stock and barrel, including those Jewish voters who cannot forgive him for the Cairo speech, the bow to King Abdullah, the 1967 borders, the lack of chemistry with Netanyahu and that the fact that he has yet to produce evidence that he isn’t, after all, a closet Muslim.

And in Israel, no doubt about it, he would be forever revered as the ultimate Righteous Gentile."

Of course, whether or not a minute part of him cares about being a Righteous Gentile in Israel is another story entirely

Many conservatives and Republicans are convinced that there is zero chance Obama would ever launch an invasion of Iran. But I often wonder exactly what he is willing to do to improve his reelection chances. Imagine if he thought he would not lose if the US was in a war at the time ? After all, it seems that Americans would be far less likely to vote him out if he were in a full blown war with Iran and he could argue that they needed to keep him in power to finish him. And his actions in Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen have shown that he is not at all incapable of using our military when he finds the timing appropriate.

So do you think that it is clear Obama will not attack Iran ? And if so, why is that ? And more importantly, which Republican candidate do you think has the best strategies for dealing with Iran ? At the moment, with our troops tied up so much in Afghanistan, I do not see how we would be able to handle a military invasion and occupation of Iran like we did with Iraq. With Iran being so much larger and more unified, it would be 5 times harder at least to successfully occupy Iran and secure victory. There is no guarantee at all that Iran would not end up like Vietnam. And then there's the issue of the economy, which is weak enough that war with Iran now would destroy the American economy beyond repair leaving us unable to deal with any other foreign military or terrorist threats.

And so while decisive action against Iran is critical, it is also a huge question as to if repeated what we did in Iraq with Iran is at all the best option or if other types of actions, both military and not military in nature, are much better. And as said above, which Republican candidate would be most likely to find and utilize the best methods for addressing Iran.

“Many conservatives and Republicans are convinced that there is zero chance Obama would ever launch an invasion of Iran.”

I suspect they are right; there is no money or troops left for such a war, and the hawks haven’t made the case to the American public that there is clear and imminent danger to us that merits such a war. Obama also doesn’t want to explain the fourth attack on a Muslim country is 10 years (it would be the second on his watch).

Not this one. Such a launch of war with Iran to save his chances of re-election have been in the back of my mind since Libya.

Never happen and we have no way of basing operations.

Some midget in Iraq/Iran told our Pussy of the United State where to get off and he did.

Under normal circumstances a Democrat might consider this, but I can’t imagine his base accepting another war. He practically ran on no more wars. Sure he dabbled in Libya, but under the un flag. A hot war with Iran, which would surely involve Israel, will be messy. Oil prices will counter any supposed patriotic bounce.

There are zero chances of this. That would hurt his re-election campaign so badly it wouldn’t recover; he was elected by the doves for the advancement of the dovish foreign policy.

If he does it will be 10-12 days before the election.

That is what I was thinking, plus the fact that Obama hasnt made any efforts to improve the military and any changes he has made in the military budget have been to cut it. Not really actions of someone getting ready for war. In addition, you have the fact that bringing back the draft is the sole method any president would have of ensuring that a full fledged ground invasion and occupation of Iran would work, and clearly Americans are not ready to go back to it. Though it is impossible to dismiss the notion that Obama would try something, it is a question of what, exactly.

I would bet dollars to donuts hussein will launch an attack on Iran when we get a little closer to the election. Count on it. Not a ground invasion, just air and missile strikes on military facilities - particularly naval installations in the gulf, missile sites, and nuclear facilities.

Well, that would be my target list. I'll bet hussein spares his Islamic brethren's nuclear facilities "so as not to cause an environmental disaster." :-/ More like he wants to appear to hurt them, but not really. So the missile targets will be short range stuff that they have a zillion of anyway. The strikes at naval targets will hit warehouses and support facilities that hussein's Russian friends will be happy to rebuild for them. Everybody wins - from hussein's viewpoint. You watch...

We’re highly likely to be seeing $5+/gallon gas by November. Even a new crusade couldn’t save Obama from that.

Not this one either. I think it’s the linchpin of his re-election strategy.

C'mon now. Democrats ALWAYS project their own intentions. Who's to say Obama wont use a nuke?

He went as far as bombing Libya, toppling Gadaffi and killing him.

Never would have thought Obama the peace-nic candidate would have done that back in 2007.

If he's desperate enough I think he would use a nuke if he thought he could win another 4 years. Of course, Iran would have to play a part by instigating with convincing threats.

They gave us Vietnam. They'd give us Iran.

May not be completely preposterous. If Obama has any real Islamic allegiance it is Sunni based (raised in Indonesia, beholden to the Saudis). However, Iran is Shia. And ther is no love lost between the Sunnis and the Shiites.

I have a friend who enlisted a few months back; he says they’re downsizing Army units (getting picky about tattoos and piercings, after overlooking felony convictions a few years back to fill the ranks). We won’t be fighting any “real” war for some time now.

This country will never have a draft again; too many people did too well after avoiding service, and those that dodged the draft illegally were pardoned soon after. They got to keep their limbs and mental health, while those that answered the call all too often ended up with sub-par care in VA facilities.

Besides, Obama has to find a way to keep those unemployment numbers down.

And then there’s that too.

Damn! Freepers think of everything.

I wish other people knew as much as we do. Yeah, so we wouldn’t have to know so much...

LOL

I figure Pakistan would be the next Libya for Obama. That's been a goal of his. He wants to topple the government and give the country to the radicals.

Pakistan or Iran before Nov 2012 (I would not be surprized)
