Any Prepping shows on television?

Posted on 11/07/2011 4:35:49 PM PST by Red in Blue PA

A few years back, there was a show on the Discovery Channel called "The Colony" about a group of people in a post-apocalyptic world who had to survive on their own.

A few years back, there was also a show on PBS about some people who were taken out to the great plains where they had to live like the original settlers.

Anyone know of any shows this season which are similar?

Would love to look forward to something on TV besides Wednesday Night at the Range on the Outdoor Channel.

Well, there is “The Walking Dead” on AMC. Just imagine the zombies are post-apocalypse liberals and there you go!

TV is meant for ‘look over there at the dancing celebrities’

Not a bad idea, but I think you will learn a lot more trying out your skills that watching television.

Terra Nova & Walking Dead. You might still find reruns of Jericho, which was one of the best of the breed. In fact, it died (IMHO) because it was too realistic!

Back in the early-to-mid-sixties, Life Magazine did a series of articles with American middle class families as volunteers. The theme was, “The nukes have been launched. You have two hours to get out of the house, into the wilderness, and survive for a month.”

Or something like that - I don’t remember exactly, it was a long time ago now.

But you might want to check the library and see if they have the back issues; it might be interesting.

Other than that, Cody Lundin has a show on Discovery with another guy, whose name eludes me at the moment, which deals with something like, “Two Guys in the Wilderness With No Equipment.”

Cody Lundin wrote the book on modern/timeless methods of wilderness survival with no equipment, zilch, nada, so... might be worth a look.

Anyway, Cody Lundin is a name to remember in the wilderness context; he’s trained himself well and forgotten more than most of us will ever know.

Myself, I’m getting old - when the nukes start flying, I’ll just stay home and char broil.

By the way - I don’t know Cody Lundin, and get neither fees nor royalties for sales of his books or promoting his show.

I’m not aware of any TV shows that meet your criteria.

Have you considered any DVDs or books that would provide the same (or similar) information?
