Good morning gardeners. Wow the first week of October! The garden has been officially put to rest and my compost pile has been tilled into the garden and is now depleted. Its going to need a lot of leaves, grass clippings and other plant materials to build it back up for next years garden. The leaves on the trees here in East Central Mississippi have awhile yet before they turn color and start to fall in quantity so I am letting about half of my grass clippings turn brown before adding them to the compost pile and mixing them with the green clippings.
Now it is time for a Blast From The Past. Thanks to Freeper SunkenCiv for the lead to this news story. It is an article about how a Food archaeologist in Arizona is saving plants that were used as a food source thousands of years ago. Not only is he saving the seeds and plants, he also has made his academic work edible, encouraging home cooks and award-winning chefs to actually use these culinary archaeological finds. Read the article here: Food archaeologist gives new life to nearly extinct grains, veggies

DDT. ;-)
Not much going on in my garden right now. Dug the carrots last week. Still getting a few tomatoes. Green salad is just about big enough to start picking. Mostly been trying to get it cleaned up and ready for winter. Still need to set the garlic out but need to wait a couple weeks on that.
Recipe?
I'll get the recipe posted today.
Forgot ... it’s sugar and vinegar, not water.
Thanks, I could use a recipe.
I got my potatoes out of the sun and put into the storage shed in wheelbarrows. Still have to move them to slotted laundry baskets. I got about a gallon of large marble size that Lady Bender will boil and we’ll eat them warm with butter and salt & pepper. Not getting much else done as our son is in Vegas for a Boys & Girls meeting on fundraising etc and I am filling in for him at work. He is president of the local chapter and all non-profits are struggling, (some can continue to struggle) but there are some worthy ones.
I’ve got comments, recipes and photos for y’all, but headed off to beddy-bye. Tomorrow!!!
You can wake up now Mrs Blonde as I impatiently tap my foot on the floor...
