The world's biggest food company Nestle is seeking to conquer the dog food market with special advertising targeted at men's best friend.

"Nestle Purina has created the first-ever television commercial especially for dogs," it said in a statement.

"The TV commercial to be screened on Austrian television uses different sounds -- including a high frequency tone -- to capture the attention of four-legged friends and their owners," it added.

I don’t want them screwing with my dogs. I’ll be flipping the channel to avoid letting them tease my dog.

Don’t let the dog near the credit cards and the phone.

My GF’s dog goes nuts just seeing another dog or small animal on the TV screen. If the critter runs off screen to the left, the dog runs to the window on that side looking out to see where it went.

And yet when you call it or give it a command it just stares at you. If there are idiot savant dogs, this is one of them.

Sounds like a “dog whistle.” Obviously racist.

This is interesting, considering the human hearing range is from 20 - 20k hz. A dog can hear up to 60k hz. I do not believe this high frequency commercial aimed at dogs is credible, considering that most audio systems do not include frequencies above 20k hz, since it would be unnecessary.

Oh, great. Now Helen Thomas will be sniffing flat screens while Michael Moore bowls her over for chow. Not good.

“The Swiss food giant has been seeking ways to tempt man’s best friend. In August it said it had developed an ice-cream for dogs, which are lactose intolerant and which are unable to digest regular dairy products properly.”

So feeding your dog sugar-laden garbage isn’t enough cruelty, they had to add an ear-splitting noise, too?

No big deal. I'm not worried about Fido watching commercials until he gets opposable thumbs, an atm card, and learns to drive to Petsmart. Then I'll worry.

Most audio sets are rated at 20-20Khz, but that does not mean they will not carry the higher notes. BTW, higher tones are far easier to reproduce than the lower tones. If you don't believe me, just listen to Sheena Easton some time; her harmonics have loads of screechy higher pitches that have got to be around 40KhZ, which irritates the stuffing out of me and gets the dog howling.

You are right. There is no way any TV speaker is will reproduce the tone for Fido.

Enough with the pix of HT. I don’t like her either, but it is not right to make fun of someone’s appearance. Just wait until you are that old and have worked as many years as she. Then, we’ll post pix of you and point fingers and make rude comments and see how you like it.
