Some weekend take a drive up to Carmel-by-the-Sea to a little restuarant called Jack London’s Call of the Wild. They have the best hamburgers in the world.

I always ordered the burger with cheddar and bacon. Came on a whole wheat bun with all the fixin’s. Oh yeah, you order the burger cooked to your preference, too. Always ordered an Irish Coffee with Jameson’s Irish Whiskey to accompany the burger.
I would do this once a week for the whole time I attended the Military Foreign Language Institute, at the Presidio of Monterey Army base.
How about we try, “The Defense Language Institute”.
Das Verteidigungssprachneintituet, du Sammenasstonnesdegassenschlampe.
There is no “Military foreign langauge institute.”
Ummm, something is bugging me. There are lots of DLI grads on this board, and ALL of them refer to DLI as - DLI.
Did you make a typo, or flunk out?
You’re correct. It is known as DLI.
In my defense, I was a French linguist for the Navy: we always called the school, L’Institute de Langue Militaire. This translates as “The Military Language Institute”. Close to Defense Language Institute, but not exact.
Thirty years tends to affect a person’s memory. And I was always told, this isn’t the ‘real’ Navy, you know!
