Following his three-day bus tour to promote his economic agenda -- and not to mention the debt limit rancor in Washington before that -- President Obama is finally getting some rest and relaxation.
On Thursday, he and his family are heading off to Martha's Vineyard, the island off of Massachusetts. They'll be staying at a 28-acre retreat called Blue Heron Farm for about 10 days.
There has been criticism of the president's vacation at this time. But how does the number of vacation days the president has spent compare to his predecessors? CBS Radio's Mark Knoller has kept track of presidential vacations for years and supplied the data.
So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch.
Among recent presidents, Bill Clinton took the least time off -- 28 days.
To be fair, a presidential vacation away from the White House is not the same as a vacation for the average person. The president is still in contact with his advisers and on call for any emergency.
SeeBS? I do.
So, basically, when compared to those in a comparable situation, one not involving working from home at a ranch property, this Oval Office occupant takes more than twice as much vacation time?
I don’t believe it. Plus, I don’t think they are including Obamas 70 rounds of golf and his fundraising tours.
I smell BS from cBS.
When someone really screws up at work and causes serious repercussions is not the time to then just run off, ignore the problems and take a vacation.
I am dizzy from all that spinning.
The Republicans worked from home (WFH) same as working from their home in the White house. 0 actually goes to resort locations and disrupts air traffic each time.
The problem is they are counting Bush working from his ranch as vacation time even though he was running the show from there and even bringing in foreign dignitaries. Obama, however, has made it known he is ‘not to be bothered’ on vacation and spends his time on the golf course.
So far 61, eh. So 71 after this one...averaging around a month a year. And this is full blown vaca...counting Bush’s time at Crawford is like counting Carter’s time at Camp David.
Too funny. By this measure, I’m on vacation 300 days per year since I mostly work from home.
CBS ACTIVELY producing propaganda to support their President.
There was no news here to report.
The real news in this story is that the news media has given up any semblance of objectivity.
Would be kind of fun - if the corporate CBS HR were called - since apparently CBS considers working from home to be vacation days - how many days many of their people owe the company.
Well, when you live in you're own brothel....
Don’t think Clinton had a home to go to. Don’t see Obama spending any time at his Chicago home that Resko bought for him.
The Bush’s didn’t have to pay rent on a place at Martha’s Vineyard.
The Reagan’s had a nice ranch property for their get away also.
Those two presidents didn’t need to *show off* that they had finally reached that “apartment in the sky” like Clinton and BO. A whole different class of people.......and I am NOT talking about money!
Someone help me recall...didn’t Hussein’s administration authorize taxpayer monies for see b.s. retirement folks?
Ok...so vacation time plus leisure time (read that golf and trips to the local burger barn to throw burgers and fries down the gut) equals how much?
It’s not a problem that he takes vacations it more the timing of his vacations and the appearance that he’s away during a crisis.
Gulf oil disaster - vacation
Attack on Libya - golf vacation
Etc, etc.

Gosh, its CBS. They are known liars.
