Online campaign urges Sesame Street to 'teach tolerance'
Big Bird could be best man. That's the image if an online push looking to join Bert and Ernie in gay matrimony is successful.
"We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful," reads the petition at Change.org. "It can be done in a tasteful way. Let us teach tolerance of those that are different."
Sesame Street spokesmen insist the muppet pair are merely "best friends" with "no sexual orientation," reports the New York Daily News. They were "created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves," said a statement.

Let Bert and Ernie get married?
I have to admit that the very thought of it brought a sort of Monty Pythonesque grin to my face when I read this line in a blog. But I followed the links to a petition on change.org that is calling for PBS and Sesame Street to script a wedding between those two lovable characters, Bert and Ernie.
Now, honestly, I dont have a clue if these characters were ever meant to be gay, but there is a very positive method to the apparent madness of the petition. Its about teaching tolerance, and saving the lives of LGBT children.
Here is what the petition says:
Let Bert & Ernie Get Married On Sesame Street
In this horrific age of LGBT kids taking their own lives, they need to know that they ARE BEAUTIFUL and their lives are worth living. Aside from those that are committing suicide, the bullies that facilitate these tragedies need to learn that homophobia is NOT okay. They need to know that acceptance of their fellow human beings would indeed plant a seed of peace that will reverberate throughout the world. We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful by allowing Bert & Ernie to marry. It can be done in a tasteful way. Let us teach tolerance of those that are different. Let Sesame Street and PBS Kids be a big part in saving many worthy lives.
I used to watch Sesame Street as a small child. It was a good show.
This can leave no doubt as to the intentions of the professional political gays who are pushing this.
When did foisting sexual awareness on preschoolers stop being child abuse?
When did foisting sexual awareness on preschoolers stop being child abuse?
Then stop trying to turn other peoples children into fudge packers. Geez!
If Sesame tries to push this type of queerdom, there will be a mass movement to defund the darn thing for sure. I know I'd be on the phone!
This would NEVER happen in Mr Roger’s Neighborhood!
I thought Bert died years ago to teach kids about “death”.
Why can’t they just stick to spelling and numbers? They do a good job at that.
Do they mean how liberals treat conservatives, too?
The same day so-called ‘LGBT’ people became a ‘protected minority’, apparently.
Sesame Street is the product of a sick and dying society.
No way on Earth I would let any child watch this mind control garbage.
They need thw young, because they are easier to brainwash than the old.
“This would NEVER happen in Mr Rogers Neighborhood!”
LOL! And I can just hear the gossip over there...’meow meow meow meow meow meow meow’
There is no justification for homosexual marriage on Sesame Street. Why do they have to sexualize anything and everything in our culture? Why are the homosexual activists being so “in your face” by coming up with this idea? Why do activists have to get down to the level of pre-schoolers with their social/political agenda? They can’t just leave these “gay” issues to us adults to grapple with??????
“This would NEVER happen in Mr Rogers Neighborhood!”
DAMN RIGHT!
Perhaps you’re thinking of Mr. Hooper? (Except, he wasn’t a puppet.)
Next time they'll have to have him dieing from AIDs. They might as well go gay all the way if they're going to do this thing.

Man are you in the wrong place.....
That was Mr. Hooper. When the actor who played him died, the character died too.
“This would NEVER happen in Mr Rogers Neighborhood!”
Correct as usual, King Friday.
