Note to USA: Next time Europeans get themselves in a jam, let them bail themselves out.

I wonder if there’s a waiting list to get into there.

Longer article on the island prison in Norway. Very nice: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/moslive/article-1384308/Norways-controversial-cushy-prison-experiment—catch-UK.html

The irony of this, is its Norway’s very small and homogeneous population that allows them the luxury of a penal system like that.

I wonder what they would do with our violent American and Mexican prisoners? Even most juvenile facilities are worse then that in the United States. I have a friend growing up who was in a juvenile facility for “troubled” youths, and they knives from all the metal trims. Nothing that could be broken and made into weapons was allowed and there was a single television set up high for all the kids to watch under supervision as a privilege. I hear rumors about country club minimum security places in this country but that is ridiculous, certainly they must have real criminals in Norway. This is really destroying my image of Norwegians as tough, even our kids are meaner.

Norway is small and homogeneous as another poster mentioned, which means that odds are he’s going to be sharing prison space with a relative of someone he murdered. Prison justice is still prison justice no matter where you are.
