It's been tweeted so it must be official: The 8 semi-finalists for the license-plate design contest have been selected.
Governor Nathan Deal officially opened the voting for the new general issue license plate on Friday. Online voting will last through July 8 and the winning plate will be announced on July 15. The winning design will be the default tag on "millions of vehicles in Georgia and wherever Georgia vehicles travel nationwide."
The eight designs are below but you'll need to go to the Department of Revenue website to vote. See if you can guess the common theme in all eight plates. (Hint: It's a peach)
And, hey, for the sake of responsible and constructive conversation, let others know which you like best in comments below.

Well, which “In God We Trust” plate are we voting for? I like the one on the right, second from the bottom.
Thanks, I voted
That one was my vote.
It would be good to get behind one. I voted for the “In God We Trust” on the left. Probably will not matter as a federal judge will likely be found to rescue the delicate sensitivities of our precious atheists.
I changed my mind and voted for TAG #5 on the left.
None of them look better than the current plates.
NM got my best work.
My NC entry got rejected.
Tag 3 should read:
IMPEACH
“In God We Trust” is a sticker. We pay an extra $1 for that sticker to place over our county sticker. Weird thing is you have to give the county your driver’s license number to even buy the sticker.
Among the 40 or so military tags is one for Veterans of the Chosin Reservoir Campaign of 1950 in Korea (If anyone's earned a special tag, it's our veterans; I'm just surprised that the tags get so specific).
Three different dog and cat sterilization plates (here's one):
We have 24 different NASCAR license plates. Are you a fan of the late Dale Earnhart?
Or A.J. Almendinger? (Yeah, I know nothing about NASCA, I'll admit, but I said "A.J. Almendinger?")
If you want a portion of your tag fees to go to 4-H and the Future Farmers of American, you buy this tag:
Sons of Confederate Veterans?
Georgia Association of Realtors?
The Atlanta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority?
The Georgia Soccer Association?
Conditioned Air Association of Georgia?
Georgia Race Car Hall of Fame?
Life University (it used to be a chiropractic school, don't know if it's more now):
Want to give money to the EarthEcho "Save the Dolphins" foundation?
Prefer to save the Ta-tas?
Proud to be an amateur radio operator (but have no graphic sense whatsoever)?
In other words, who is going to notice a new standard tag? We have them all (by all, i'm including the one available to spouses of those who survived the attack at Pearl Harbor).
It’s my personal favorite.
Don’t ping me TEXAN.... ;)
Ohioans are still oddly burned up over that NC “First In Flight” biplane tag, I see. Now they have a biplane on theirs.
There’s something vaguely Teletubbyish about it though, can’t quite put my finger on it.
