Mom kills 5-year-old over broken TV: prosecutors

NEW YORK — Prosecutors say a New York City woman beat her 5-year-old son to death because he broke the television while playing a Nintendo Wii video game.
Kim Crawford was charged with murder and manslaughter in Bronx Criminal Court on Tuesday. She was ordered held without bond.
Prosecutors say she admitted hitting the boy hard in the back and stomach over the broken TV.
Police found her son, Jamar Johnson, unconscious and not breathing at their Bronx home on Friday.

According to the Daily News, Crawford told police that she hit Jamar on his back and stomach "harder than I've ever hit him" on June 13: "Crawford watched him vomit and complain of agonizing pain for five days as his internal injuries got worse. She never took him to the hospital because she feared getting arrested, she told investigators." Crawford allegedly said, "I was worried they'd see the bruises and I'd get in trouble," and the boy's death was ruled to be caused by an infection to a lacerated pancreas and intestine. She watched him suffer for 5 days and did nothing.

Those Wii controllers have destroyed quite a few nice new flat-screen TV’s. They can slip out of your hand and *smack*... one shattered TV screen. They come with a wrist strap for just that reason.
