Seventy years ago today, on Saturday, May 24, 1941, if you were walking the halls at St. Marys Hospital in Duluth you might have run into members of the Zimmerman family. They would have been there for the birth of Abe and Beatty Zimmermans first child, a son whose arrival was noted in the News-Tribune five days later:

This is a "THREE-FER"!!
The birth announcement blurb, a link to a 2008 article, and an article/transcription from a 1986 interview in Duluth when he played there.
An then there are the pictures.
Robert Zimmerman aka Bob Dylan as he looked when he graduated from
Hibbing High School in 1959. (News-Tribune file photo)

I just noticed the url is simply http://attic.areavoices.com/, so for the record (just in case anyone tries for the source page after today) this is May 24, 2011.
Unless I'm way too sleep deprived tonite, that means you will have to look in the "areavoices" archives in the future in order dredge up this trivia.

That hair (in the pic I posted) looks very painful, like he's tried his damnedest to smooth out and tamp down the pile of curly kinks, but it still springs up into a q-tip.
Must have been a relief when he let it go it's own way.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Bob Dylan is the greatest singer-songwriter of all time.
Anyone who doesn't agree doesn't know music. :-)

Yah, and really, he still don’t smell all that bad yet.

Well, I know singing! And I say he comes across as nearly tone-deaf. I like his stuff when covered by people who really know how to sing... or at least carry a tune!

"As for singing, the guy can't carry a tune in a bucket!!"
Jimi Hendrix, who early on rarely sang vocals, said if Bob Dylan can sing vocals, anyone can.

Like Neil Young. If he hit the right note he’d total it.
Oddly compelling and beautiful, taken on the whole though. Wouldn’t be right without that cracking voice and the sort of sour harmonies.

A little more
Dylan: Live at the Newport Folk Festival.
An American singer-songwriter, poet, and painter. He has been a major figure in music for five decades. Truly a hall of fame career.
Happy birthday Bob.

My three score and ten are finally done
Sung all my tunes, had me some fun...
Now, all I'm thinkin' it to get me a gun
And finish up out on Highway Sixty-One.
