Ruger LCR .38

Anyone have experience with the Ruger .38 LCR? I'm tempted to buy one to replace my Ruger .380 LCP and give that to my husband. I've decided after owning it a little over a year that I prefer a revolver over the pistol.

Any reviews or comments on this choice vs. a S&W?

A nice ladies pistol that I use when home is a Beretta Tomcat in .32ACP loaded with Glazer Safties and Hydra-shocks. Small but powerful. You might want to look at it.

Don't know about the LCR, but I have a S&W 642 with Crimson Trace grips, and I like it a lot.

I have a Ruger LCP, too. I actually carry the LCP more than the 642 due to size.

Outstanding trigger with the LCR pull but to me, reloading the LCR is not as smooth of an operation as a Smith & Wesson where you just push the thumb forward to release the cylinder.

Of course, some might argue pushing the thumb forward to release the cylinder is no different than having something press it forward as you are drawing it and suddenly, you are pointing a gun with an open cylinder. I doubt this scenario would happen though.

No problem practicing with .38's but if you are going to carry mags PLEASE practice with them also.

Being an “old dog” I’ll take a revolver over a pistol as a “lifesaver” any day !! You weigh your “carry” ammo and check it for fit, but sh*t still happens ! Having another round with a squeeze beats the hell out of “tap’n rack” IMO !! Point shoot it from where you got it, too ! >PS

John Connor ? in last months American handgunner gave it a very good review. Albeit he’s a gunug riter he’s pretty dead on when describing his experience with such. I don’t own nor have I handled one but its getting favorable reviews per my reads in gun rags.

I have an airweight SW 38 hammerless.

Very slick and small.

Not exactly target practice material. If it shoots it will work and last forever.

Smith 442 and LCR are both good but go with what fits your hand the best.

I carry a 442, so does my better half. Put a spring kit in mine and the trigger is great.

The stock grip on the 442 is easy to pull, conceals well.

I'm kinda surprised that nobody has deviated from the OP's question and recommended a 1911 or a HD shotgun.

If this were a gun forum, there would've been such a recommendation within the first 5 posts.

I know two guys at work who bought the LCP and claim that it takes a lot to rack in the first round and the grip is to small. Another guy bought the LCR but has not fired it yet so I have no report on it.
My gun is an older model Charter Arms Bulldog 44 Spl. with Glaser Silver Slugs.

I have a ruger sp101 in .357. It works but has quite a bit of kick with the .357 mags in it. The .38s aren’t so bad.

If you don’t kill them with the bullet the noise certainly will.

My Tomcat stove-pipes far too often for me to rely on it as my reach-for weapon. I've tried half a dozen different loads...it still jams.

Now, my S&W snubbie....
