As I said, you can tell how far a former star has fallen by the rediculous arguments people will make to build up a 4th-place finish.

“Well, he did a lot better than some 51-year-old blogger could do!!”

If we were measuring “champions” by my abilities, we’d have about 150 million world-class golfers.

Give me a couple of months, and a cushy job like President where I have plenty of time to work on my game, and I might be able to beat you. That is, if you haven’t played golf before. Otherwise, I might be hard-pressed. I do own my own clubs though — the curse of being left-handed and short, if you want to play golf you should probably own your own clubs.

As I tell my children — if you can’t be number one, strive to be better at everything than everybody who doesn’t really care about that thing. Let it be on your gravestone “He was pretty fast for a slow guy”.

Is Tiger “back” because he had his best round of golf in a long time, and still didn’t even have the best round of the day? I remember when he used to WIN TOURNAMENTS.

Where did Phil Mickelson finish? Bubba Watson? Dustin Johnson? I’m not saying “Tiger is back”. Nor am I saying Tiger had a great round (nor a bad one by any means). Nor did he have a great 4 days. But the way he played day 2 and yesterday has to give him a boost of confidence that he’s on the right track.

But what bothered me most of this tournament was the lack of American contenders. Sorry, but I pull for the good ol’ USA when in competition with foreign players. There’s a pretty good article about that in the most recent Golf Magazine. Worth reading.

I’m a lefty myself. Not the best player by a long shot. Overweight, health issues, don’t drive the ball long, and at my age need senior shafts. (Just finished building two sets of 5i>PW with senior shafts, and am reshafting some other clubs as well). I’ve played for over 50 years and am little better than I was 10 years ago. But I play for fun, not competition, and it’s a pleasure to me. So, I’ll do my own thing, yet enjoy seeing someone who can really play stay in contention, even with his foibles and problems.
