A WIFE filed for divorce just a month after her wedding because her husband insisted his mother came on the honeymoon.

Beautician Marianna, 36, who can only be identified by her first name because of Italian privacy laws, thought she was free of her suffocating mother-in-law after a lavish church ceremony in Rome.

But 39-year-old Stefano, a salesman, had secretly booked his mother into the same five-star Paris hotel. The first Marianna knew about it was when the woman turned up at the airport.

The wife’s lawyer Giacinto Canzona said: “She wants a divorce because of her husband’s excessive emotional attachment to his mother.

This is very Italian and a real problem for the country.

I’m surprised they vacationed in France: most Italians think the next town over is a strange, horrible place.

A recent study showed Italy has the highest number of mature men still living with their parents.

This sounds like a setup for a Doris Day movie.

He’s lucky she didn’t shoot him.

And I don’t think there is a jury in the world that would convict her...

Sad, but don’t blame her a bit. Wonder how many years she was engaged hoping that he’d grow up? Seem to remember a Twilight Zone episode with a similar theme.

My sister, mom and I were discussing the crappy economy, and mom's options for her retirement fund, which is fading quickly. Sis quipped that "If things get bad enough, Mom can move in with you".

To which mom replied: "Put me on the ice floe". Mom now has senility issues, but she was quick enough for that one.

Of course, I told my sister, "Put her on the ice floe".

Love mom dearly. But one of us would get blunted to death if we had to share a living space for very long.

Incurable momma’s boys those Italians. And the mommas are insufferably suffocating. I feel sorry for this poor girl but she should really have already known what she was getting herself into.

"A recent study showed Italy has the highest number of mature men still living with their parents."

Not uncommon throughout Latin America as well, especially for women. It would be very normal for a woman in her twenties to be living at home until the time she takes a husband.

My sister and I are going through that now. I had her first, for just over a month. Now my sister has her.

Hell on ice. Unfortunately my mother suffers from some kind of emotional problems but is not senile.

It is insufferable.

I couldn’t imagine this. I could not wait to leave the crazy people, AKA my parents.

My first wife had 2 Italian uncles that died in their late 80s, still living together in the house they grew up in.

They had their mom’s dress hanging on a door and kept a chair for her at the dinner table.

Did you find out about the uncles before or after you married her?

True. I’m half-Italian myself and many years ago, I visited our ancestral home in Napoli and one thing I directly noticed were these grown men, coming out of these houses, grabbing their stuff and getting a kiss on the cheek from their mothers. We are talking about age 30 dudes. My Mom thought it was cute, I thought not.

Consider subsidized housing. It’s an option that some dear friends have had to choose. They live in very nice apartments. . . one bedroom, kitchenette, storage areas, lots of closets with parking.
