Why the long face?

BAR staff at the Humpty Doo Hotel got a surprise on New Year's Eve when a patron rode a horse into the pub and ordered a beer.

Riding bareback and wearing no more than shorts and a pair of thongs, Trevor Yeend steered horse Elvis through the crowd and went straight for the bar.

The 48-year-old jockey said it was easier to ride to the bar than walk.

"I think people were a bit stunned," he said. "But it was just another night at the Humpty Doo pub I guess."

Newsbreaker Dave Grant snapped a photo of Mr Yeend and Elvis waiting to get served. Mr Grant watched as Trevor used a chair to climb atop the four-year-old stallion on the pub's outside veranda and negotiate his way through an archway into the pub.

Barmaids turned off the ceiling fans when they saw Trevor and Elvis coming, Mr Grant said.

"Everyone was just rolling around on the ground laughing," he said. "There was a sign outside the front (saying) no dogs allowed but nothing about no horses, so he was quite within his rights to do it I suppose."

Claiming it was the first time he'd been on a horse in 40-years, Mr Yeend isn't your usual looking stock hand. Sporting a long, white beard and mohawk, the plant operator is more at home atop a Harley Davidson motorbike.

Elvis's owner Les Schultz said he had ridden the horse to the Humpty Doo Hotel earlier in the night and was surprised to see his mate climb atop. "Trevor's actually a really good singer," Mr Schultz said.

"I've been asking him for ages to ride Elvis and sing so he'll become famous and I can be his manager."

For an encore, Mr Schultz wants his mate to ride Elvis through Darwin City's Throb nightclub wearing only a G-String. "But I've told Trevor I'm going to have to teach him how to ride because I'm not leading him in there," the Humpty Doo resident said.

Hanging on for dear life, Mr Yeend looked far from comfortable while posing for photographs atop Elvis yesterday, admitting the New Year's Eve stunt is what makes Humpty Doo unique.

"That's why I'm here, I only stopped for a beer - and that was five years ago."

MY EYES,MY EYES!!!

God created clothing for a reason and that guy needs some.

What has been seen, cannot be unseen.

If someone would post a pic of Fabio on a horse( or some other beefcake), that would help cleanse the palate.

They sell beer by the vat not the mug.
