The Philadelphia Phillies reintroduced their big free agent acquisition today one that Phillies fans grew fond of during a World Series run two years ago. Cliff Lee appeared relieved to be back in Philly after being bounced all across the United States over the past two seasons. Lee, who will wear No. 33 now that Roy Halladay has taken over his old No. 34, spoke about the opportunity to join a rotation that could be historic, as he termed it. He also praised the fans in Philadelphia and cited them as one of the main reasons he chose to return.
The Yankees needed to get Lee and they couldnt pull it off, leaving Brian Cashman with a rotation that is full of holes. Lee will likely be praised for leaving money on the table by signing with Philadelphia, but the lefty said it best when he told reporters that enough is enough when you hit a certain point. He turned out to be the Yankees worst nightmare in free agency a guy who actually cares that fans spit on his wife when he visited Yankee stadium as the opposition more than he cares about a longer, more lucrative deal.
Fans in Texas and/or Seattle might be a little offended by one of the more humorous moments of Lees introductory press conference, when he alluded to the fact that Philly fans dont need a teleprompter to tell them to cheer.
I think it’s a dig at Rangers fans.
Odd. I never knew he hated it in TX..
Gee, the Giants beat Lee twice in the post season, and they beat Halladay, as well as all the other “aces” that were thrown against them. Based on the hype, you’d think the Phillies had won the 2010 World Series....
I admit it, Dallas fans are the worst, going to Cowboys games, especially during their heyday in the 90s was like going to a wine tasting.
What do you think was responsible for the Giants’ victory?
It wasn’t their offense.
Pitching rules.
Defiantly. Arlington just isn’t a Baseball Town
Yep, and the Phillies just spent a fortune on a pitcher the Giants owned....
Come on....you’re a smart guy.
The GIANTS’ pitching was hotter than the Phillies....LAST year. {{wink}}
Cliff Lee, unfortunately, is right. Rangers fans are extremely fair-weather. At a Cubs game this May, half of the stadium were cheering for the Cubbies.
Well at least Rangers’ fans know how to yell “Yankees Suck!”
reminds you of some team in the NBA..
It’s generally true for any sunbelt franchise, it’s just different than in the Northeast. Most people here in DFW came from somewhere else and keep their old allegiances, I’ve lived here for 20 years, and while I’d rather see the Cowboys do well than not, the Detroit Lions (thank you for your condolences) will always be my team. This season was probably the first time I truly rooted for the Rangers more than the Tigers. The Rangers have for the time being changed a lot of things with their success, but they have to follow it up. But by now I’m afraid it’s “World Series or Bust” for the fans, and if the Rangers are out of it, nobody will care.
Just keep thinking the Phillies have already won the 2011 pennant like they did in 2010....
‘zactly....
“a guy who actually cares that fans spit on his wife when he visited Yankee stadium...”
No one came up to my wife and spit on her. Nobody poured anything on her,” Lee said. “You go to any stadium, the opposing team stands and starts cheering, especially in the postseason, fans are going to say things to them, they’re going to do things, that’s part of it. That story was way overblown and was false and had zero to do with the whole thing. Hopefully we can put that behind us because it was a non-issue.”
Freegards
Don't worry about my Pirates though. We're just on a two decade slump. Give us one more decade.
Dear God, why did you make me like baseball?
“At a Cubs game this May, half of the stadium were cheering for the Cubbies”

The reason for that is that allot of the non Ranger fans are from the rich burbs like Plano, Allen and Frisco. Those areas are all infected with yankee carpetbaggers, and their not the baseball team Yankees. They are the people shipped in here to work at the Corporate HQs for HP, Dell, J.C. Penney and etc....
The ones cheering for the Rangers are usually the native locals. After living in the far North Dallas burbs the last
ten years, I hardly ever meet a local native.
But they apparently DO need a teleprompter to know when and where to puke.
Memo: NOT on little girls in the stands.
