Sarah Palin and family: celebrity over politics
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 11/29/10 | Caille Millner

Posted on 11/30/2010 7:22:35 AM PST by earlJam

Is there anywhere I can go to be safe from the Palins?

Can't go to the bookstore.

The stores are all plastered with promotional posters for Sarah Palin's latest memoir; her memoir from last year is no doubt lurking on the remainder table.

Can't watch television. There's a chance I might flip past their reality show, "Sarah Palin's Alaska," on TLC. Though at least I can be grateful for small favors - like the fact that I won't have to watch the foulmouthed and fouler-footed Bristol Palin on "Dancing With the Stars" anymore.

...............

Famous equals shameless. This has been the rule for most celebrities since the turn of the century, but American politicians were slow to embrace it. As late as 2008, politicians still seemed to be concerned about being associated with vulgarity or shallowness - remember Hillary Rodham Clinton's refusal to appear in Vogue magazine during the primaries? It sounds quaint now, doesn't it?

...........

This open secret is what irritates even Republicans about the Palins' endless media circuit. They don't begrudge the Palins the right to enrich themselves. But by constantly hogging the national stage, they're making it difficult for a real 2012 contender to emerge. And without a real contender, how will other Republicans get even richer than the Palins?

“Is there anywhere I can go to be safe from the Palins? “

A gay bathhouse. Nancy Pelosi’s office or house. Any alleyway in SF.

HILARIOUS!

But Obama being everywhere on all channels in every show is A OK...right...

Palin is the best candidate. In policy, character and in shrewd tactics.

Look, the media made mega celebrities of liberal politicians, no case more so than the Obama, closely followed by the Clintons and JFK. It was impossible to consider these mega-stars in any policy or true character basis because the fanatical cult of celebrity that was raised surrounded them.

Likewise the media made mega villains of Republican politicians, no case more so that Dubya, closely followed by Cheney, Rumsfeld and Nixon. It was impossible for most to see through to the good truths of their policies and character because of the utterly toxic defamation and slander that was raised to a froth against them.

Only Reagan bested this template, because he was already a celebrity who had carefully followed, studied and acted in the arenas of celebrity and politics.

Palin has gotten way ahead of the curve, and is using the mechanisms of awesome celebrity to develop a shield against the cultic toxins of a media which has already mightily attempted to turn her into a mega villain. She had to start AFTER already taking on major first hits from the poison media oligrachy. Saturday Night Live, Letterman et al. Nevertheless her supremely good temper has turned those hits into scalps she took to wear on her belt.

Palin is the equal or better of Reagan in many ways. Though Reagan leads in acquired wisdom he gained over many years, Palin grows in wisdom every day.

Using the name "Clinton" in the same paragraph as this statement is truly mind-boggling.

I watched two episodes of her show. It was good FAMILY entertainment and I learned more about this woman.

God forbid we have a woman on TV who doesn't swear and curse every five seconds.

Go watch some scissoring on Glee in SF so you can get off.

OH MY GOSH.

They have me convinced. Sarah should just back down and let one of the ‘good ole boys’ win. It’s not fair that the PUBLIC picks the candidate they like the most.

Heck, we should just eliminate the vote altogether and let the Media pick the Presidential Candidates, and the winner. They’ve always been right so far.

I'm quite capable of avoiding a show I don't want to watch. I just don't turn to the channel when that show is on. It's not hard to do. The author seems quite stupid.

Based on your posting history you seem to have, shall we say, an unhealthy obsession with Mrs Palin and her family, so let me see if I can help...

That picture you sent her of you in your favorite lingerie outfit is NEVER going to get a response. NEVER. You're just not her type. Sarah prefers men.

I don't agree. She is not hogging anything, she is asked and she answers.

When the time comes others will come forth. Until then she beats the conservative drumbeat laced with some fluff and annoys he be-jeepers out of liberals on both counts.

But Ms. Millner can take solace in the fact that the TpCaucus is advancing strongly everywhere..
I'm sure she is for advancing State rights and following the Constitution..
Many that think the 2010 elections were great..
Will not believe the impact of the 2012 elections..

The TpCaucus is growing, GroWING... GROWING.. (Jaws theme)..
Growing every where in scope and depth.. yes; even in NYC and L.A...

After noticing the source as the SF Chronicle, I shouldn't even bother...but what the hell...

All of the whining and gnashing of teeth from the left over Sarah Palin is pointing to one thing...they want to pick OUR candidate FOR US...AGAIN.

The left scours these boards and they know that Romney is not the favorite of the conservatives because he's a RINO...it doesn't take a Harvard graduate to know that.

But the left calculates their probabilities and IF they have to lose to a Republican, they had rather it be a RINO they can push around and intimidate. The other by-product of that is, they know Conservatives will stay home and not vote for another RINO...a la Juan McCain't.

Their vested interests in Romney is a flashing neon billboard of reverse psychology.

I'm afraid the machine - the Palin machine - is already in motion, and whether the left likes it or not, it will be a powerful force in 2012. They certainly don't want her in there because none of their intimidation tactics have worked on her, she doesn't care much for the MSM, and she *gasp* talks back to the MSM and the blue bloods.

If obama is the "one they've been looking for", all I can say is the left sets their standards mightly low. This epic fail of a Presidency will go down in history for the fluke that it is.

We need a person who doesn't blink when the left and the MSM says "boo". There are very few out there with that kind of moxie, and I believe that Sarah is one of them.

I pay not attention to all these internet polls, because as we know they can all be "freeped", they could be two people voting 2000 times, so it's unscientific at best.

Pollsters know that the "everybody follows a winner" syndrome drives a lot of people to their choice in an election, trying to hitch their wagons to a star.

The polls push what ever candidate the left is trying to foist upon us, but Sarah's TV program, tweets and other communication let us hear it straight from her...a valuable commodity in chosing a leader.

I call internet polls..."polls by the moles", as they don't mean squat.

Insofar as Palin's "media circuit"...so what? It's how she makes a living. She has a degree in Journalism, so why not?

FOX News offered her a job, that pays well, so why not?

She is making money from her books and TV specials...so why not?

For the left to supposedly be the hallmark of intelligence in this country, I am constantly amazed that they still have not mastered the simple on/off switch. They don't like Limbaugh, but instead of turning it off, they want to ban him from anyone listening.

They watch "Sarah Palin's Alaska", just to pick it apart and criticize every thing she or her family does. How small and pathetic is that? Like a bunch of envious, gossipy old ladies.

To the lefty MSM: You can write until you wear the letters off your keyboard, but you're not going to stop Sarah Palin, she's outfoxed you time and time again, and if you mouth off, you'd better be ready for a reply...Sarah - she don't play dat.

Sarah removed herself from being a sitting target in the Governorship of Alaska as the MSM and the left were using her time and Alaska's resources to file one bogus lawsuit after another. But she didn't retreat, she reloaded. She now has the resources to fight back, and the left doesn't like it.

In reality, the left really doesn't care what Sarah Palin does, they just don't like it when she tells what their pals on the left are doing. They attack her to hide the facts about themselves.

So Caille Millner - whoever you are - pull in your fangs, YOU are not going to be the one to claim the "I Got Sarah Palin" trophy either.

I guess Caille doesn’t remember the post-election “euphoria” of 2009 and early 2009. Taking the article on with a few tweaks:

Is there anywhere I can go to be safe from the Obamas?

Can’t go to the bookstore.

The stores are all plastered with promotional posters, calendars, children’s books, photo books, “collector’s item” magazines ad nauseum trumpeting Obama’s arrival as the “great transformational figure for a nation in need.” There are rows upon rows of Obama’s latest memoir; his earlier memoir from a few years ago is no doubt lurking on the remainder table. Magazines glorifying Michelle Obama as the new “Jackie” are everywhere.

Can’t watch television. There’s a chance I might flip past some talk show praising Obama. Though at least I can be grateful for small favors - like the fact that I won’t have to watch the tacky display of self-worship in the way of “Office of the President-Elect” pasted to podiums and teleprompters.

But fortunately... at least for the short term... there will be no Barack Obama on “Dancing With the Stars.”

Remember years before 2008 when her husband would show up on every late-night talk show with his saxaphone?
