Now that the Republicans have made significant inroads into the Congress, what's next? Expectations are high that the new Republican majority in the House and the improved Republican representation in the Senate will stop and reverse the Obama agenda.
Would that that were the case. Obama has already signaled that what has been done in the Congress is not debatable. While telling America that he is prepared to work with the Republican majority in the House, the fact is that he has indicated that he plans to pursue his radical agenda unabated. Too many Republicans are too willing to "reach across the aisle" and compromise. Rather than stopping ObamaCare by any means possible, they want to repeal and replace. We didn't send them to Washington to replace it, we sent them there to sabotage this monstrosity and stop it in its tracks.
While other Republicans are planning to make the Obama Administration face the white hot glare of the public spotlight in an endless procession of Congressional investigations, the majority of us will be facing the higher taxes and higher prices of goods while Washington dithers and "compromises".
In their post-election speeches, both the President and presumptive Speaker of the House Boehner interepreted what the election meant. And, both got it wrong.
The president thinks that America simply doesn't understand what he is trying to do and he needs to take more time to explain it to us (if only we were all as smart as he is!). And, Congressman Boehner talked about a lot of things that left more of a wishy-washy feeling than a clear understanding and direction that America wants this country to take.
What we are potentially going to see is a take-no-prisoners political bloodbath between now and 2012. The Republicans recognize that they lack the votes to repeal all of the dreck legislation passed by the current Congress, as well as overriding the promised veto of those repeals. So, they plan to investigate everything under the sun. In other words, it will be more of the same. The Bush tax cuts will expire, and the Obama tax hikes will kick in and the Republicans won't have a clue how to fix it.
Politically, there is much they can do that will make the Democrats sweat but, in my opinion, it won't change the coming tsunami of tax hikes coming in January. They can produce bills that force the Democrats to go on record sustaining ObamaCare, Comprehensive Immigration, Cap and Trade, and the massive stimulus bills. That will make some fun political fodder for the 2012 election cycle, but what about the period between now and then?
Right now, the unknown factor is the Democrats themselves. Obama and Pelosi led them down the garden path and fed them to the wolves (us). And, that is not likely to sit well with many of the returning Democrats. While the Republicans could well end up being as impotent as it appears they will be, they could find an unexpected alliance with disgruntled Democrats who are willing to revolt against their own party as political payback for Tuesday's election losses.
Whatever the next Congress brings us, we can be assured that it will be interesting. In the meantime, plan on tightening your belt and scaling back your spending. The tax hikes are coming . . . . and NO ONE is willing to change that.
Well I know one thing that they won’t do. And that’s to try to force enforcement of immigration law.
The daily presence of a few million illegal aliens in California is one big reason that this state has turned into a fortress for the Democratic Party. They vote. They vote in sufficient numbers to throw elections. Unless and until the GOP is willing to deport illegals they are going to lose more and more elections. It’s simple culture and demographics. The GOP is too craven to enforce the law even when their survival demands it. I hope the American people cease being as gutless as their politicians.
One step in front of the other.
Keep moving forever forward.
Don’t waver.
Don’t hesitate.
Don’t relax.
Keep pushing forward and never forget why.
Here’s my recommended program for the House:
Day 1: Repeal 0bamacare.
Day 2: Make Bush Tax Cuts permanent.
Day 3: Cut spending to 2008 levels.
Day 4: Cut corporate, estate and capital gainst taxes further.
Day 5: Pass Earmark Elimination Bill.
Day 6: Go home to your district, and drink a beer.
The Senate and 0bama will kill all these good ideas. Then you can start week #2:
Day 1: Kill the Personal Requirement to buy health insurance from 0bamacare.
Day 2: Kill the 1099 requirement from 0bamaCare.
Day 3: Pass a law prohibiting the IRS from hiring additional staff to enforce 0bamaCare tax penalties.
Day 4: Pass a law requiring all further Stimulus monies be impounded.
Day 5: Pass a law requiring all repayments of TARP go to reduce the deficit.
Day 6: Go home to your district and have a beer.
Keep this up every week, with new good ideas, one per day, and pass them until you are exhausted. When every single good idea is rejected fully by the Senate and 0bama, we’ve set the table for 2012, and we can compromise if we must.
But until all the lines have been drawn, just keep passing legislation that clarifies the distinctions between the parties.
They need to take a hole puncher and punch the crap out of every line of the bill until it looks like Swiss cheese.
He doesn't really think that.
You are Naïve if you think he does.
That is PR speak.
He is a Marxist. We ain't. It has nothing to do with "understanding" and he knows it and we know it.
“But until all the lines have been drawn, just keep passing legislation that clarifies the distinctions between the parties.”
And that’s exactly what they need to do. But having watched the Republicans at work for many years that’s exactly what they won’t do. But I suspect that this time is different. If the GOP doesn’t man up, there will be another party forming that will. And it will push the GOP into the third spot.
Huh?
You make some interesting points. IMO, the GOP benefitted from an angry electorate without really doing anything to earn the elections wins they achieved on Tuesday.
At this point, the unknown factor for future elections is the Tea Party. Currently, the GOP is standing with the Democrats in opposing the influence of the Tea Party. Theoretically, it should be at their peril, but it remains to be seen whether voters will relaiate against their arrogance or shrug their shoulders and say “we tried.”
If we (the Tea Party) make ourselves heard strongly enough between now and 2012, the GOP and the Dems will have no choice but to acknowledge our influence. It’s going to come down to money and maintaining pressure on the ‘Pubbies in Congress to get them to understand the mood of the country.
I didn't say that I thought that, the president has stated that HE thinks that. And, given his arrogance and holier-than-thou attitude towards the rest of us, i believe that he DOES think that. It doesn't mean that he intends any sort of course correction, it means that he thinks we are simply to stupid to comprehend how "brilliant" he is.
Would that that were the case = If only that were the case.
IMHO, we need to demand investigations into ACORN and union trickery during elections before they cheat their way into power again.
They’ve already cheated their way into power again. ACORN never went away and is experiencing an rebirth under zero and the union thugs are . . . . . . . still union thugs!
