Freeman was Arthur Dent in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy a couple of years ago. Rumour had it that he was considered for BB but turned it down. Either false rumor, or they talked him into it. Either way, good call IMHO.

I don’t really care too much who plays the dwarves. The actors are going to be buried under makeup and their true physical stature is going to be heavily altered. I agree that Freeman is a good choice for Bilbo. I’ll be curious to see if Beorn will be in the movie and who will play him.

You should put up Barabara Mikulski’s picture too.

Whew. At first I read that as Morgan Freeman as Bilbo Baggins.

Now when is somebody going to bring this to the screen?

With this movie they won’t have to worry about someone spilling the beans about how the story ends.

The voice of Smaug is an important casting consideration.

FR could easily spare ‘em a couple of trolls...

And then we could all cheer when the sun comes up and turns ‘em to stone.

The voice of Smaug is an important casting consideration.

If they didn't mind a Cajun accent, they could use James Carville.

In fact I don’t think any human voice will do. I’d suggest some electronic manipulation to make it more inhuman.

Richard Boone (Have Gun Will Travel) was the voice actor for Smaug for the old Rankin-Bass version of "The Hobbit". Outstanding voice work ...

Freeman is a good call for Bilbo, I think.

So far, so good. I trust Ian McKellen is back for Gandalf... He simply ~owns~ that role.

I heard it was Danny DeVito.

A sword from a barrow [not in the movie], forged by Elvish smiths and bespelled against the Witch King of Angmar [in reality the Lord of the Nazgul], and wielded by “no man” - a hobbit. [I’ve never bought into the Eowyn thing].

Still my favorite fictional character!
