No Probemo.

listen to the crappy remix.

It’s just plain off.

E’s voice is there and still terrific as ever.

But the minds behind the new album said the new tracks won’t lose the qualities that made them hits in the 1950s and ’60s.

The British public recently voted that the duet they’d most like to see happen would be with the late Elvis Presley and Lady GaGa, according to a new online poll by Match.com.

Thanks. I am familiar with some of the Colonels background, including the honorary title which I thought was self-annoited, like Col. Sanders of KFC. I also know he was a colorful character, sort of like Don King, and I will follow your recommendation and learn more.

My original interest was aroused when I learned that Elvis never saved or invested his money, preferring the play-as-you-make-it plan. I had expected a “manager” to have some influence over that. Instead, it seems that when Elvis was broke the Col just booked another tour, etc. I also read that when he died there was no estate to speak of other than royalty rights. That makes me curious as to what the Col did with his part.

I think the Col underestimated Elvis and thought the gravy train could stop at any time. Elvis was a good actor but the Col booked all those B grade musicals while he was in the Army just to keep the gravy flowing.

Oh well, like Michael Jackson, it is all over now. Maybe Pricilla and Lisa Marie will make something off these remixes, not that they are icons of virtue themselves.

Dwight Yoakum did a great cover of “Suspicious Minds” some years back. The Elvis remix sounds like an interesting live version... but I prefer the Memphis sound of the original. BTW, didn’t they tend to boost the background singers and other clutter on Elvis’ late songs because he just couldn’t hit the notes anymore?

Yikes...this remix is truly cringe-worthy, but as always, it’s all about the money...magritte

This reminds me of how enjoyable the music of Raymond Chandler is after the Beau Hunks transcribed it and played it with modern recording techniques.

True, the 70s stuff sounds dated, overproduced, the Jordanaires are not on it, but the remix will sound dated tomorrow, and is overproduced as well. Trash begets trash. Listen to the early Sun recordings, mid-fifties RCA Victor (Elvis 1956 is a fine album), and the very early 1960s Nashville stuff (Elvis Is Back is the man’s best album, as was always the case, despite himself.) Don’t need to improve any of it with ridiculous Las Vegas, i.e. Liberace, Wayne Newton, bells and whistles. Let Paul Anka improve his master works in Vegas casinos!

I listened to the 30 second snippets. Truly awful stuff. Only Bossa Nova Baby shows some potential, I think, but only because the original screwed up an interesting tune so much.

In searching for this Suspicious Minds remix on amazon.com’s mp3s, I found 2 other ones done in recent years.

Don’t know why this one would make headlines.

Parker definitely mastered the art of making a buck off of Elvis. For example, when Elvis first hit the big-time, there was a backlash, especially among the older generation who felt he had no talent and was corrupting the young ones (this would be repeated a decade later with The Beatles). Well, Parker started selling "I Hate Elvis" merchandise like buttons and bumper stickers. So even for those people who hated Elvis and didn't want to give him a penny, Tom Parker was finding a way to earn money from them too!

The man was an illegal alien and a crook.

___________________________

Following Presley’s death, Parker set up a licensing operation with Factors Etc. Inc, to control Presley merchandise and keep a steady income supporting his estate.[30] It was later revealed that Presley owned 22% of the company, Parker owned 56%, and the final 22% was made up of various business associates.[31] Due to an ill-advised agreement between Parker and Presley which gave RCA sole ownership of all his recording royalties prior to 1973, the estate was relying heavily on the income from Factors Etc. Inc.[30] However, because Parker was still entitled to 50% of all Presley’s income, and after taxes were taken off, the overall amount going towards the upkeep of the estate was less than $1 million a year.[30]

In January 1979, it was discovered that Presley had lost out on royalties for songs he had been listed as a composer on, due to Parker advising him not to sign up to Broadcast Music Incorporated.[32] Experts in the field at the time summarized that it had potentially cost Presley millions of dollars.[32]

By 1980 the cost of running the estate was estimated to be as much as $500,000 a year.[30] Priscilla and the Trust were prepared to let Parker continue to handle Presley’s business affairs, and petitioned the court to that end.[33] However, Judge Joseph Evans, aware that Lisa Marie Presley was still a minor, appointed attorney Blanchard E. Tual to investigate Parker’s management.[30][33] His preliminary finding was that Parker’s management deal of 50% was extortionate compared to the industry average of 15–20%.[30] He also noted that Parker’s handling of Presley’s business affairs during his lifetime, including the decision to sell off past royalties to RCA for $5.4 million in 1973, were “unethical” and poorly handled.[33] During a second, more detailed investigation, all earnings were paid directly to the Trust instead of Parker.[30] By this time, with the IRS demanding almost $15 million in taxes, the estate was facing bankruptcy.[30]

On August 14, 1981 Judge Evans ordered EPE to sue Parker for mismanagement.[34] In response to this, Parker counter-sued.[34] The case against Parker was settled out of court in 1983, with the estate paying him $2 million,[34] and the termination of his involvement in any Presley related earnings for five years.[30] He was also ordered to hand over any Presley audio recordings or visual images that he owned.[30]

Priscilla doesnt deserve diddly. Elvis left everything to Lisa Marie. Priscilla isnt even mentioned in his will:

Last Will and Testament of Elvis A. Presley

After Elvis' death, Priscilla had to CONvince Elvis' father, Vernon, to name her in his will as a trustee.

After Vernon died, she reportedly yelled: "I'm glad that cheap son of a bitch is dead!" (Vernon indeed was known to be a cheap penny pincher)

As one of the members of the Memphis Mafia puts it, Priscilla was more plastic than a corvette.
