I just started getting notices from my email service for failure to deliver mail I didn't send; to addresses I dont recognize and apparently (according to Yahoo mail) dont exist. Is this a scam? All the addresses that are reportedly non existant are to Yahoo email addresses.
Any Ideas appreciated!
Spooky
Assume everything is a scam....and you’ll be right most of the time. It’s a scam & sales nation we live in.
Do you use Outlook? It’s possible your computer has been hijacked by a virus and is sending out spam. Just one possibility.
Some spammer is probably using your email address to send his stuff and when it bounces it comes back to you. It’s happened to me many times. It should slow down and cease in a few days.
Pretty much there is nothing you can do about it. He could be anywhere in the world.
Just fill in your soc sec number, bank routing info, and credit card (with expiration date and security code). Shouldn’t be a problem.
Someone is using your email address, masqerading as your address, to send spam email. Some of the addresses they send to are no longer good and the bounce back emails go to you.
Your service provider might be able to give you some advice.
It’s spam. I got that a long time ago, freaked me out to, isp
said it’s just some spam email account used your email as a reply to is all it is.
Try changing your password?
Exactly right. A spammer got the email address and is using it as the return. Don’t worry, just delete the email.
Of course, it never hurts to change passwords and use difficult passwords to avoid easy hacks.
Mmmmmmm. Did your wife see these emails you never heard of and know absolutely nothing about?
It could be a spam trick but more likely you have a virus on your computer sending email. Run malwarebytes and combofix and that should fix the problem.
Looks like a program is using your computer as a spambot but isn’t using your address book, it’s using another a list they are supplying.
That’s my guess.
Either that or it’s this:
“The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep. And miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep.”
You will know what to do.
Don@VB has it right. Somebody else from far away using your email address. It’ll burn itself out in a few days. For you: no harm, no foul.
There’s a slim possibility that it’s an infection in your machine burning through your contact list, but not likely.
“Some spammer is probably using your email address to send his stuff and when it bounces it comes back to you. “
Yes, most likely.
There are two possiblities either your mail was hacked or it’s spam.If you can still get into your mailbox most liely it is spam.
My thoughts too! I scanned w/Outlook and it appears clean!
WHAT PM said. Someone has stolen your email address and is using it to spoof their email address. This techniques is used by spammers and scammers.
Here lately I’ve been getting emails from myself. I don’t open them so I don’t know what they say.
