If you didn’t want a baby you should have kept your pants zipped.

He killed the mother and his unborn child because he wanted to follow in his mother’s footsteps and become a nurse? Now THAT’s some convoluted logic.

He wanted to follow in his mother's footsteps and pursue a nursing career but was afraid a baby would derail his plans, A murder conviction will derail your plans even worse.

Back when dinosaurs ruled the earth, we graduated high school, got a job / went to college /enlisted, fell in love and got married when we could afford it, and THEN considered raising a family.
What am I missing here? Have we lost all sense of responsibility and honoring the social contract?
Stories like this make me look forward to the next life.

Prosecutors have not decided whether to seek the death penalty. Yeah, because it's California and...you know. there might be mitigating circumstances justifying prosecutorial mercy to an aspiring young man who felt that preserving his future career as a male nurse necessitated murdering a pregnant 17 year old woman and her unborn child.
Yeah.
