Will viruses randomly print pictures or is it time to lock the computer down?

I was out running errands the other day and there was a weird picture laying on the printer when I got back.

Can a virus do this or do I have a teenager who's possibly up to no good?

He’s been told not to get cheat codes for gaming because some of those sites have strange pop ups and links.

We do have a cat, but she likes to sleep on the monitor not scamper about on the keyboard.

Now that is funny...but so true. But she may need to employ the tactic of threatening to hire someone to clean everything, then tell her what they found and putting the settings to a point where it won’t happen again.

“”He’s been told not to get cheat codes for gaming because some of those sites have strange pop ups and links””

A co-workers husband had used her work computer to go to those gaming cheat code sites. I tried saving the computer but couldn’t it had to be wiped clean, and since it was a company provided computer it had to be sent in. The computer had so many viruses, it took 40 minutes to boot up, tons of pop ups etc.

As far as I know, just some naked woman. He said the printer went crazy, he freaked out, grabbed it and threw it in the recycling, but there was one picture left on the printer that we didn’t find until the next day after the rubbish had been picked up.

Seems like if he was up to no good, he would go through every piece of paper on the printer to make sure everything incriminating was gone before anybody got home.

Do you have a wireless router?
And is printer sharing enabled?
It could also be a neighbor.

I agree with this post. If your network is not password protected, and your wireless router is open to access (non-WEP enabled).

The easiest way to prevent someone outside your network from accessing hardware on your network is to set up WEP encryption on your router. Check the router manual on how to do this. Also, you can password protect your home network. How to do it varies depending on the OS you are using.

>Yes. I would tell him you are counting on him to employ his expertise to clean that stuff out of the cache, registry and all those kinds of computery places, and be sure your settings are such that this never happens in your house again so you don’t have to smack him up side the head.<

Oh. You were being sarcastic. I was afraid of that.

Hubs and I will lock the computer down so he can’t get in. Hopefully no real damage has been done.

I’m sick about this.

We are going to password protect the PC.

We aren’t on a network-there’s only one computer-wireless is supposed to only be accessible with a password or code or something like that.

There should be no damage. I am glad you have been spared learning just what kind of abuse young men can withstand.

what anti-virus package do you have?
What OS are you using?
Go to and download superantispyware(.com)
after running your anti virus go to symantec and download their free scanner, run it and see if it finds anything(then uninstall it).
If anything is found repost with the virus for help.

Cali, sorry to hear that. You may want to configure your wireless router to only allow your computer’s MAC address access. Somebody may get your password, but generally they can’t spoof the MAC address of your wireless card.

I hate feeling like I can’t believe anything he says.

I hate not being able to trust him.

He’s a teenager now. I guess it’s going to be a bumpy road for the next few years.

We have very good security software and tools for removing viruses. We ran a few of them last night, but they didn’t find anything.

Its natural for boys to try to look at naked ladies.

Its natural for Mom to get upset and tell them no and that it is unacceptable.

My opinion, tell him that you will take his word for it this time but that if it happens again you will assume it is his fault and the feathers will fly.

Woman sans clothing.

Can you scan the image and post it here so that we can evaluate it's weirdness? ;-)

I agree with everything you said, but we’re still locking it down.

There is a silver lining here. We know he’s not gay. (Hubs was kind of mad about this whole thing too, but when I pointed this out, we both were able to laugh about it.)

I know it’s bad to say things like that, but if I can’t laugh about it I’ll cry!
