He's dressed in black and red, and stands on the 50-yard line at the Georgia Dome. His presence is commanding, and his voice is forceful and commanding when he speaks. He's leading a choir.
If you're thinking Matt Ryan, Tony Gonzalez or Michael Turner, you're wrong.
Instead, the Atlanta Falcons have gone Hollywood for a video promotion released Friday. Actor Samuel L. Jackson is the man urging fans and the city to "Rise Up" in the powerful production.
"It's time we all rise up," Jackson says in the video. "We've been knocking on the door. Now it's time to blow it up."
Jackson, whose ties to Atlanta include a Morehouse diploma, tells ESPN.com it was an honor to film the commercial. He also still has his Steve Bartkowski jersey, he told the magazine.
"I really believe the Falcons are headed in the right direction," Jackson said.
The one-minute performance likely won't be the last Jackson does with ties to Atlanta. Atlanta director Kenny Leon has previously said he'd like for the "Pulp Fiction" star to play the role of Martin Luther King Jr. on Broadway.
The Goergiadome already plays horrible music, now this?
sorry
Georgiadome
Lots of angry black AND white men in Atlanta. The team is a loser.
It ain’t easy being a Falcons fan....my son is one and has to live in a house with a mother who is a devoted member of the Who Dat Nation and a step father who is a Redskin fan! Poor misguided child....nothing I could do with him. But, he is not going to like this nonsense....that part of him, I DID do something with!!!
King SR., maybe. Jackson is over 20 years older than King Jr. was when he died!
No kidding. A leftist voice for the Birds? Forget about me getting any tickets.
This is the kind of nonsense that we PACKER fans don’t worry about.
GO!! PACK!! GO!!
I am so sick and tired of hearing ‘ghetto rap’ at games that I do not take my kids to see them.
Of course, we can not say anything without fear of being branded as ‘racists’, but come on, the Obama project is over and has proven to be a failure.
Let freedom ring.
Will someone please tell the Falcons management? You can not even leave a comment at the ajc because they support hip hop nursery rhymes noise.
I have tried emailing the Falcons but have not heard a response.
“It’s time we all rise up,” Jackson says in the video. “We’ve been knocking on the door. Now it’s time to blow it up.”
Intelligent coaching and talented players win games.
I also have a #10 Bartkowski jersey.
