I think it’s a first for Obama addressing the military this way. Can’t think of any other photos (of him) I’ve seen like this one.

There were several young soldiers on the balcony with him, at first. They were being honored for gallantry.

One young black man was dressed in a suit and tie, although Obama had told them all to “dress down” for the barbecue. This young man said, “Sir, my grandma told me to dress up for this occasion, and I always obey her.”

This fine young man put the President to shame.
