A Spokane man is the first customer to file a lawsuit against Conagra Foods for their microwave popcorn.
The product in question was pulled from store shelves three years ago. Thats because a chemical inside was making its workers sick. It involves an artificial flavoring called diacetyl. For years it was put in popcorn to give it a nice smell but the aroma is allegedly what made one Spokane Valley man sick. A man who loves popcorn.
Attorney Richard Eymann says the man had it in a bowl and sometimes hed lap it out of the bowl like a dog would. Diacetyl is a chemical that has been pulled from shelves. For most people, it wouldnt be a problem but for someone who ate so much popcorn it caused serious health problems.
Eymann says the man ate five to seven bags of popcorn a day, not knowing there was something harmful in it. The man was diagnosed with bronchial obliterans. Eymann says its like having bad asthma.\
In 2008, he filed a suit against Conagra and other companies involved in making the popcorn and the flavoring. It charges them with being negligent; that they should have known how dangerous the popcorn was, and that they didnt warn consumers.
In a statement, Conagra said Tuesday Conagra has a long history of corporate responsibility and we pride ourselves on food safety and quality. We do not believe the lawsuit has merit.
Next month, a jury will have the final say. Although Conagra and the other defendants are fighting this lawsuit, they have settled with workers who got sick in the factories.
Microwave popcorn is crap. Whatever happened to popping it on the stove and pouring real melted butter over it?
Is it the safe kind?
Diacetyl? Isn’t that a kind of small dinosaur?
>>hed lap it out of the bowl like a dog would.<<
What a pig. Sorry, but we weren’t meant to snort popcorn.
“Whatever happened to popping it on the stove and pouring real melted butter over it?”
People are lazy and its easier to nuke it. Not to mention they can sell a two pound bag with 27 servings of the old fashion popcorn for $1.50. Or they can sell a box of 3 microwave bags for $3.

That smell that they added always turned me off. I considered it a foul stink!
Yes they do, can be hard to find but its there.
Yeah, I hate all that fake junk. Stinks up the microwave too.
Too much of anything is bad for you.
Especially plain old fashioned stupidity!
He sounds like quite a catch.
Oh man! ... I was just thinking about getting some popcorn, but wasn’t “quite decided” yet. I’ve decided now ... be back ... :-)

I like my Orville Redenbacher popcorn and I can still pour butter over it, too ... LOL ...
LOL!

Ah.. The memories of popping popcorn as a kid.. and getting yelled at for burning the pot. Heh.
It seems like even if you lap popcorn out of a bowl like a dog, you wouldn’t want to admit it.
