What should USC do to recover? Sue Reggie Bush!

USC football is about Cardinal and Gold. The Trojan Horse. The Coliseum. The words “Fight On.

There are now new words to describe its football program.

Arrogance. Ignorance. Tolerance. Sanctioned.

Pick any word and it probably fits the USC football program these days. But there’s another one that should be considered: Lawsuit

.

You can shape it, paint it, mold it any way you want if you are USC. You were betrayed by star running back Reggie Bush. You were tampered with by outside influences. You were ambushed by one of your own assistant coaches, who knew but did not tell.

And now your football program is going to go into the hell of probation, at probably the worst time to be in trouble, as your conference gears up to be a megapower. Pac 10 football is likely to be 16 teams strong, as your program grows weaker. USC will not be in the future, what it used to be in the past.

The 66-page NCAA list of allegations and sanctions was not fiction writing. It was fact. It was 13 months of illegal payments and benefits, 13 months of lies and coverups, and 13 months of excellence on the football field stained by secrecy and sleaziness.

The story is out there for the world to see. Bush, his stepfather and his mother, with their hands out, taking payoffs and gifts, during his glory run to the Heisman Trophy and the run into the USC record books. Crowds of 92,000 on Saturdays, huge victories, conference titles, and the magical BCS games against Texas, Oklahoma, and more. We won’t see that in the near future.

And now we find after the fact, some $300,000 plus in illegal payments. Living in a luxury house in Spring Valley for 13 months without

I suspect the AD didn’t care as long as they were winning and bringing in the money. One reason they were hit as a repeat violator

The assistant coach mentioned in the article as knowing used to be enough for the death penalty for a REPEAT OFFENDER such as USC.

Just win baby—that’s all they cared about.

Some call it NCAA football. I like to think of it as “cheating.”

Like I’ve said before, it’s not fair to the incoming kids to have their hopes and dreams of making it into the bigs destroyed because of someone else’s greed, arrogance and ego. Goes double for the coaches

Hey, it's only June.

Those poor boys have enough time to make other shady deals with different ADs at different schools. The headhunters are already burning up the phone lines to every athlete on USC's roster.

The USC coaches will be lucky to have enough bodies to make up a team.

If they've signed up and get denied an education, maybe I'll shed a tear for them. I can't figure out why the poor taxpayer in CA has to subsidize their opportunity to get to the NFL. I cry for the taxpayer.

From what I’ve read their team will be freshman and sophomores if the upperclassmen bolt

I guess that we got lucky with the Derrick Rose deal. Just lost our records.

It was also not a repeat offense inside the window the NCAA sets.

from their own website:

USC has nearly $560 million in annual research expenditures, and has ranked among the top 10 private universities in federal supported research activity.

A private school that uses taxpayers money.

Hadn’t heard from Hacksaw in a while...used to listen to him here in Los Angeles on the old XTRA Mighty 690, and then KLAC 570 before Fox Sports Radio took over. Also was the longtime radio voice of the San Diego Chargers (”TOUCHDOWWWWWWWWWWWWWN SANNNNN DIEGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!)

“The best 15 minutes in radio”...of course, back in the day, the best 30 minutes in radio belonged to Mr. Jim Healy...

So sue Reggie Bush, oh and McKnight with the SUV, and Garrett saying that Kiffen’s violations at Tennessee were just minor violations and “we don’t care about minor violations”, and Tim Floyd handing out cash for Mayo, and, and, and...

Like they say - it’s all Trojan envy. We apparently all want to be them (or not).

Healy used to call Hamilton "The Tijuana Twit!"

Jim Rome used to call him "The Butterknife" (probably still does)

The only one privy would be Asst coach McNair. I’ve read the transcripts, and there is no admissible, credible evidence to support the ncaa’s findings that McNair knew. Even under the ncaa theory, he didn’t know until after the USC/TX game - Bush’s last.

Some of the allegations are silly - the homesick tennis player calling her family in Europe on USC’s dime - obviously not authorized. If rather than stealing phone calls she embezzled from the student store - same result? Robbed a bank?

Then there is the running back who was “caught” driving his girlfriend’s car - a “violation” b/c her car was co-signed by her employer, who is not an agent and has no connection with USC.

The punishment doesn’t fit the crime under any definition of “fit”.
